In 2005 I owned a 2004. 5 SRW 2500 that I towed heavy and took truck to spring shop in Charlotte and they added 2 full length leaf springs. It handled and road so good that when I purchased my 2007. 5 I had planned to do the same. Well now after nearly 6 years I have finally pulled the trigger and did it. I took the truck this morning to a well known spring faciity in Winston-Salem, NC and they did a wonderful job in adding a single full length spring rated at 760#s per spring. We removed the 3 spacers below the main pack next to the axle which lowered the truck about what the new spring raised the truck. We also added one 1/2" block between the upper overload and main spring. The truck rides great and I can't wait to load the RV for the next trip. I will be removing the air bags.

Be sure and let us know how that works out under load. I've been thinking of removing the overload springs and putting air bags in.

I towed my rig for about 20 miles last week and it did just great. Not near the bounce entering & exiting bridge approaches. Only settled 1 1/2"s when I loaded the fifth wheel in place. I look forward to a long haul.

I had the same thing done on my '06 when I was transporting. The extra leaves made a huge difference. All Gen III trucks used for towing heavy fifthwheel or gooseneck trailers need the added leafs. Their OEM spring leafs are long and biased for a comfortable ride not routine heavy towing.

Cumminz's comment "the bounce entering & exiting bridge approaches" brought back memories. My springs had become so weak and the rebound over highway dips had become so severe I thought the trailer would be disconnected on the rebound.

Many TDR members add air bags instead. I heard or read so many comments about air leaks I never wanted air bags. The additional spring leaf is an excellent solution imo.

I have a 2500 that I've been tempted to add the 3500 springs to. I'm not far from Winston-Salem and might be interested in an extra spring leaf instead. What company was this?

They did the job while I waited.

Below are two pics og my truck & RV with over 3000#s of pin weight. Notice truck is sitting just a little above lever. Also bear in mind the spring company removed all three 1/2# shim plates below the spring pack which would have lowered the truck 1. 5"s. Other photo shows upper contour of springs under load. Upper overloads are 3/4" from touching.
