Owners manuel suggest that you remove the r/front wheel and inner fernder skirt to enable access to the Fuel Filter. Why can we not remove the r/side Battery in an effort to gain access to the filter housing. Perhaps there is an issue that I'am not as yet aware of. Have not attempted this as yet as I would like your input first.

Further I do not for a moment believe that a dealer tech would remove the wheel and the skirt. I will certanly appreciate your input, thanks.

I have been able to wiggle the filter out without taking out the fender liner on our 09 model. It is not easy but do-able. There are a few twists/turns and handing it off from one hand to the other... . Have fun.

I resisted removing the wheel well liner on my 2005 as an unecessary step for years until a particularly tight wiring job I was doing on my truck.
It literally takes just a minute to remove the 4 screws and liner and removing it makes access to either side of the engine MUCH better.
After doing it that one time, I realized that there is actaully NO reason NOT to remove it.

I do mine from the top. Use a long e tension to drop straight down in front of the firewall. Put the socket on the filter, then slide the extension down into it so you don't mess with the harness that runs in front of the firewall. Then you can use the torque wrench to tighten when done.

I do mine through the wheel well. I don't remove the wheel or the liner. I do use the filter wrench they say not to use. :-laf
