Just got my 2007 Dodge 2500 SLT Long Bed 4x4 5. 9 Cummins out of the dealership. Transmission had to be rebuilt. Vehicle had 37,724 miles on it. Warranty expired at 36000. Truck was delivered March 2007.

I have heard that all dodge trucks delivered after July of 2007 had their warranty extended to 100000 power train warranty. Is that true?

Dealer stated that the Reverse Clutches were Burned. Stated that their was nothing they would do to help me out. Said I had abused the truck and I had been hauling heavy loads. I have only had a trailer on my truck approx. 5-6 times over the 19 months I have owned the truck. Doesn't seem like frequent hauling to me. I pulled a 20 ft gooseneck with a Kawasaki Mule trans and a Suzuki 4 wheeler with a Multi-quip generator. Doesn't seem heavy enough to over load it.

Has anyone had similar problem? What could have caused this? I did not service the trans at 30K but an extra 7500 miles on the change doesn't seem aweful since I do not use the truck to do frequent hauling.

How do you determine which maintenance schedule should be used with your truck?

Do you have any power adders? If you tow heavy regardless on how many times you should up the transmission maintenance and have the bands adjusted. When the trans runs hot the fluid breaks down. When I had my auto I serviced it at least every 15K miles and kept a close eye on the fluid and transmission temperature.

I was just about to ask the same question. You can see my truck profile and the mods in the sig. I just turned 30k this week, but since I don't tow anything right now i'm not worried too much about servicing it just yet.

It may have been just a bad part. It does happen from time to time. I have been hard on mine and just passed 101k and as long as i'm not stupid with it works great so far.

Towing a trailer one time can do severe damage. It has nothing to do with frequency of towing when it comes to burnt clutches. Many times it is just from getting the truck stuck or backing up into a tight spot and letting the temps get out of control. 37500 miles is an insane interval with any diesel especially if towing. I see trucks with burnt fluid after a single trip.

As you can see from my post I do not tow heavy and do not tow often. Seems insane that a transmission that in a truck this size would burn up from what I towed after such a short time.

Burnt fluid after a single trip? Nobody in their right mind would change fluids after every trip. Is this something inherent to Dodge's.

:-laf People in their right mind don't tow with big power and stock trannies but it happens all the time.

With out knowing how much power or how you drive or if you got it stuck it's all just guessing

Now that I have had it rebuilt. How long do you go before having to tighten bands?

Understood. Hasn't been stuck. But honestly never thought possibly burning up a transmission from that. Will keep that in mind when I do get stuck.

If I wanted to beef up the transmission where would you start. No that I have no confidence in the transmission I have. I will start looking at upgrades. Any suggestions where to start?

Servicing the trans will help catch little things before they turn into big things.

I recommend 15k intervals for most people.

I do my own more often. If you add a deep pan they have a drain plug so it is much easier to do more often with less mess :-laf

I basically was told by the dealer that because I did not service it at 30K that they would not show me any good will. So I would be careful with that statement. They didn't care if I towed or not. Just that I could not show proof that the transmission was serviced at 30K. I still don't understand why there is a schedule A and schedule B in the book. If you do not follow schedule B you can not win with the dealer. They get to decide what should have been best no matter how you drive. Never asked me a question about my driving or towing. Don't feel I met the demand to be on schedule B but they didn't care. They said they have a unpublished dealer book that shows what areas are schedule B and I fall under that. End of discussion

Mileage should only be a touch tone for Transmission service, its the temp that counts, Yes it is possible to glaze the clutches after One use if the temp are high enough... My suggestion is always in the safe zone if you ever hit 200* just once on the same fluid you need to service at 20K, if you hit this temp regularly you need to drop to 15k, if you can stay under 200* 30k would be OK, but to extend to 37k you need to stay under 180* always.

I am not sure that servicing at 30K would have helped but I am sure it would not have hurt. However transmission worked fine one day the next will not back up or going to 3rd or 4th. Dealer said clutch material shorted Solenoid out. However now that I have done research I realize that the week before rebuild I was having the 1-2 shift problem that is described in the TSB. Just didn't know what it was because it would go away when you put your foot on pedal. Hind sight is always 20/20

Sorry for being nieve but how would I know what transmission temps are? Aftermarket gauges? Add ons?

If this is the case how in the world can Dodge justify putting a Schedule A in the book that calls for transmission service after 100K. They must be off their rocker or know they are going to get service work.

That’s how they were able to deny you warranty claim, if you would have follow this recommendation the dealership may have went to bat for you. Impeccable history is hard to beat when you go WAY be on the minimum requirements.

Thanks for the info, with that in mind I may consider servicing mine even though it probably doesn't need it. That said, I would politely thank the dealer for the information and also share with him that you will not be interested in any future truck purchases from their dealership.
