At a minimum you need to invest in a fuel pressure gauge so you know what kind of pressure your lift pump is running. It is a must regardless of which pump you choose. The in tank pumps seem to be more reliable than the block mounted Carter pumps but I personally wouldn't trust it. I also like to run extra fuel filtration, again some will say it isn't' necessary but the VP44 has been proven to be a little finicky with contaminated fuel and I would rather change a set of filters then a 1200 dollar injection pump because I got a few gallons of bad fuel from somewhere. There are single and dual filter set ups out there without a pump, but if you decide you want a better pump down the road your going to have close to the same amount invested in a separate pump/filtration set up as you would stepping up to an AD100 or a FASS,system that has both and comes with a lifetime warranty. There are a lot of options and opinions , you just have to decide what your comfortable with.
