During a quick visit to a local Dodge dealer today I happened to walk past a row of new Ram pickups parked behind the dealership. The one on the end caught my eye because the Ram 2500 model designation badge was high on the driver's doors, in a horizontal line with the Cummins badge on the front fender like the pre-introduction 2007 Ram 3500 chassis-cab photos we've all seen. I stopped and looked it over quickly and scanned the MSRP window sticker on the door glass. It was a 2007.
The only difference I noticed in a very quick walk around was the model badge in the higher position as mentioned above and the taillights have two raised bumps over the running and stop/turn bulbs like that on 2006 Durangos. The taillight size and shape and the opening in the rear fender appeared to be identical to the 2006 truck parked next to it so I assume that anyone who wants the 2007 look can probably retrofit the Durango/2007 Ram lenses. The MSRP sticker indicated the engine was the familiar 5. 9 liter Cummins Turbodiesel and the transmission was 48RE. This particular truck was a Mega-Cab with a short bed.
There may well be other differences I overlooked but I didn't notice any significant changes. My guess is that the new 6. 7 liter engine will be offered 1/1/07 and possibly the Aisin 6 speed automatic. Maybe also the 4500 and 5500 chassis cabs that many have been hoping for for several years and a Mega-cab with 8' bed as many have wished for. I'm only guessing (and hoping) here, I have no insider information.
