I was talking to a fellow TDI owner in the Costco parking lot last week, he said the local dealer told him as of 01JAN2007 that you will no longer be able to buy a TDI in Oregon. Anybody know if that is Oregon specific or if that is true? I wonder if it is something to do with the new emissions? It would seem that wouldn't be Oregon specific, unless some wacky legislation got passed that I haven't heard about? He just bought a used 99? with 70K got 49 MPG his fist tank with a manual transmission.

Shelby, I have heard that VW's TDI as well as Jeep's new diesel are no longer going to be available in the US. They can't meet emissions, DC is looking for a new engine for its Jeeps :(

Not just Oregon or Cali, it is nationwide. It was in the Detroit Free Press today. I think the headline was "VW to drop three diesel models". No '07 VW diesel models except the Toureg, or however its spelled, which will continue to be offered with a diesel in '07. They did say that they will once again be offered in '08. They being the Passat, Jetta, and Golf. I think it also stated that VW diesel sales were up from 12% last year to 20-21% this year. I have not heard anything on the Jeep though. Its a shame, one step forward, then two steps back.
