We're ordering a 2008 6. 7L. I'd like the 6-speed auto with the 373 rear.

I've heard that that's a valid combination, but on the Dodge web site it doesn't allow the selection of the 6-speed auto with the 373 rear.

Is that really the case? My dealer says I can order it that way.

Also, is anyone driving with the combo of the 6-speed manual and the 342? If so, how do you like it? What kind of fuel economy are you getting?

We're not going to be towing heavy, so I'm looking for the best combination for the higest fuel economy.

Thanks for the help.

so the 08's dont come standard with the 373's any more. If your not towing heavy that should be some good highway mpg's running 342's

I've read a few post on a swap from 3. 73 to 3. 42. They reported a LOSS in MPG. Also had to use 5th with the auto a lot more. Try using the SEARCH function of this site for info. Also on Dodge-Diesel. Org - Diesel Truck Resource - Home The FORD forum most on it do not want 3. 42 as a standard gear. They don't want to have to PAY for the 3. 73 which most of them say is a low as a diesel truck of this type ought to be for any kind of real work.

I'd like a 3. 42 gear. . I run 3. 07s and a 5speed . . soon to be a G56 6 speed. . its in how you drive. . of cours i don't lug it in 5th at 40-50mph etc. . i run in direct more often (4th) but mine pulls awesome and runs great good mpg etc. . heck its nice in 4wd low i still can cruise decent mph when i plow etc from one driveway to another any how. .

I am looking at buying anew truck or barely used one and if i can't get the 3. 42 gears in th etruck already, im buying them and installing them . .

Thanks

Deo

Kinda apples to oranges comparing a 92 to a 07. 5 up. Differant tire/wheel diameter, torque range etc. With the factory auto that 92 was WFO at 80 mph with the 3. 07 if that fast. Was it not?

jcarey,

I ordered my 2008 truck in November 2007 and picked it up on 10 January 2008. The build sheet for my truck shows:

ETJ: 6. 7L Cummins Turbo Diesel Engine

DEG: 6-Speed Manual G56 Transmission

DME: 3. 73 Axle Ratio

In November, at least, you could buy a truck with the combination you want.

I bought my truck at Batesville Dodge in Batesville, Indiana. Have your dealer call and talk to Kevin if he can't figure out how to order it. Kevin sold me mine. The phone number is 812-934-4300.

Good luck.

Loren

I believe there is an error in the Dodge web site. I remember reading sometime ago that another person had the same issue. He went to a dealer and found that the 3. 73 is standard with the 6 spd 68RFE auto transmission and the 6. 7L CTD. Go to a dealer lot and look at the window sticker on the trucks on the his lot and you should see that the 3. 73 is standard on this truck model. Good luck and enjoy the your ride.

I have a 08 and auto trans with 373's. It is a great combo. At 60mph tacometer says 1500rpm's. I pull a 14. 5K 5ver and it pulls good.

When you use the dodge web site to build a truck, when you get to the axle ratio don't chose any and it automatically select the 3. 73 gears with the auto. Jeff

I want to thank everyone for all their responses.

My wife likes the auto, and Im happy as long as we can get the 373, so we'll go with that.

As usual, TDR rocks!
