Dealer service manager says grease fitting doesn't exist, don't worry about it!
Once in a while when I first set out for the day I hear a weird drive train noise on my '08 (40k miles), almost as if a bearing is binding. I changed the oil yesterday, and was reminded that the service manual schedule says the front drive shaft should be lubed. Had seen that notation before, but never could find the fitting. Today I thought, I better dig in further, in case this noise was a problem of my own making.
A little searching here and on other Dodge sites told me that this wasn't a standard fitting. Unfortunately, even with a mirror and flashlight I couldn't find any special needle hole as shown in the forums. And yes I have the little "grease front drive train with each oil change" sticker on the front under the hood. So I called the dealer and said: "Can you show me where this fitting is?" This done of course with a little trepidation, since supposedly I was guilty of not following service instructions.
After I explained what I was interested in to the service writer she put me on hold to determine if their service department could do this for me. Soon the service manager was on the phone and said (paraphrasing): "There are no grease fittings on your truck. We get a lot of inquiries about this, and we keep complaining to Chrysler about putting the stickers on the front. "
Now other forum threads seem to indicate that there may in fact be a lubrication point there, and that not all Dodge dealers know this. Not sure if this is the situation with my dealer, or the fitting is not there. (My dealer has been working on Dodge trucks for a long, long time. ) But in any event at least I tried...
