whoops, Harvey, the 4500 has only one rating the 3500 and 5500 have two each.

10,200 & 12,500; 18,750 & 19,500, while the 4500 is 16,500.

Oh well, I guess it doesn't really matter. I guess we can accurately say that a 3500 has a GVWR of 12,500 and a 4500 can have a max GVWR up to 16,500 and the 5500 a max GVWR up to 19,500 but some individual trucks may differ slightly based on optional equipment.

Rich,

Your second messsage posted while I was keyboarding mine.

I understand why the 3500 has two ratings. Dodge sells a single rear wheel cab and chassis which I forgot about.

I don't have any idea why the 5500 would have a slightly lower GVWR.

I think you made an error on the 4500. I looked it up yesterday and was thinking it was 16,500.

I think I already stated this... . The main shortcoming of a 3500 is front axle capacity.

My 07. 5 X-tra duty is no 4500 or 5500. It will not carry in the bed what a 5500 will. :-laf I will say this, the way I have equipped my 3500 especially since I have added 5500 emblems on it will carry my 5er as well as any other truck barring none and will ride a whole bunch better. I have removed the single most light due issue. "The wheels". The next light duty thing on trucks is usually the tires because they meet the road. Mine are 245x19. 5s. I tow 26k GCVW regular and this 3500 is still asking for more.

Relate all that to 4500/5500s. What is their major weak point. Maybe the ride. #@$%!

I forget what was the original question. ??
