Hunting elk last week in way back in mtns of Wyoming and my friend has the 2008, 3500 and the regen light came on at 80% full and then 92% and then more as we were using it on short runs on cold mornings and I was wondering if there is a way to force a regen burn cycle in a case like this?? I have an oldy but great 99, 2500 and don't have this problem, but I don't know much about this generation truck with the regen exhaust DPF burner system, could someone enlighten me?? I don't know if the DPF burner chamber gets to 100%, does the engine go to limp mode, does it just quit, or do you have to call a $750 wrecker to the back woods???? Thanks in advance for any feedback!!!

Need to get it out on the highway ASAP. It will go into limp mode and have greatly reduced power if you continue to drive it without allowing it to go into regen. . I have had both my 08 and 10 go into regen at 35mph and complete at that speed ( snow and ice prevented me from going any faster).
 
Do you have the high idle feature, if you set your high idle at 1500+rpm and let it run awhile you might see the message drop in percentage over a 15min run time. I'm not sure if it works, but I have used it to shorten my regen cycles. I have a problem with the way the regen program, that was reflashed in 09, causes my truck to run differently and even prematurely took out my clutch. So when it goes into regen I will idle it at 1500+rpm for 15 min, that seems to shorten the regen time.
 
Setting the idle up will not allow it to go into regen, it sets it in a soot reduction mode. It modifies the fuel input to not produce as much soot under normal idle conditions. With the exhaust brake engaged, it will cause it to produce more heat in the engine and the exhaust, but will not help clean the DPF.
 
Thanks for the input!! It seems that Dodge/Cummins missed the boat on this one for, working trucks, with more help than necessary by our EPA. There should be a way for the owner/driver to start a regen cycle when he knows that he wont be back on the highway for 4 to 5 days and in the slow, low speed , early morning warm up mode that we have done for years and with my 99 truck is no problem. I guess the answer is to do the off road mod by disableing or removing the burner can and associated electronics risk the EPA fines. Where is the best place to look for the aftermarket solution for this issue?
