Survey for Alcan 2008 is complete, and the final choice is Inuvik/Tuk over
Yellowknife/Norman Wells. Our consensus was that the NWT in winter is
interesting, but not ready for prime time. Winter roads are still rough &
slow, faciliities are limited & expensive, and scenery simply doesn't
compare to the Yukon and Dempster.
You'll find some photos at survey pictures, and a new itinerary. Feedback is welcome on
this proposed route: It's one day longer, but ends back south in Jasper
just a day from Seattle. We could push and do the last few days faster, but
this allows time for two more ice slaloms plus a night at Liard Hotsprings
Lodge (how many times have you driven by without time to get wet?).
