The kid said it's my fault.............

Time to get 2008 Alcan entries in the mail! We have 8 now, and will post a current list next week. Here's more ino:

* 2008 dates are February 18 - 26, itinerary options are at <http://www.alcan5000.com/08WItin.htm>

* Option 3 (Kirkland, Watson Lake, Yellowknife, Jasper) has the most interest so far. This includes the usual ice slaloms, plus two nights in Yellowknife NWT and a 600 mile round trip up the Mackenzie River to Norman Wells and the Arctic circle. A map is at <http://www.alcan5000.com/pdf/08AlcanRt3.pdf>

To do this correctly, we plan a full course survey with two vehicles in February 2007. We're budgeting for a starting field of 20, but really need 15 entries by January 15 to confirm interest.

If you plan to come, please send an entry form <http://www.alcan5000.com/08WEntryF. PDF> soon. We realize sponsor budgets aren't set till late 2007, but must commit to a 2008. Alcan winter event now or consider replacing it with a summer Alcan that would guarantee entries.

Well has anyone decided to jump into the rally yet?

We're going to be leaving Feb. 24 to do course survey so I'll post a report on how things are up north when I get back, may try do post some while we are up there if we get internet access. I'll be taking pictures and I'll post some of them as well.

The weather report for Norman Wells NWT today is calling for a nice toasty -25C high temp and -30C low. It looks like the ice roads are starting to firm up nicely and weight limits have been increasing. The NWT DOT website has not been update yet for the new year we I'm waiting to see what the new weight limits are going to be.

Here's a link to the NWT DOT website, http://www.dot.gov.nt.ca/_live/pages/wpPages/home.aspx. They have a link to a map showing the yearly winter ice roads. They sometimes cut in more if there is a need to truck in supplies someplace.

Here is an story that one of the motorcycle rides on the 2006 summer Alcan wrote for Motorcyclist's Post. It gives a good discription of the type of rally the Alcan is and the type of roads that are covered, of course the roads in winter might be covered with ice and snow and some are just ice over top of rivers and lakes.
