2010 Better fuel economy

Is the increased mileage that some are claiming come from removing the DPF and EGR/cooler system or is it from the programmers. I know H&S is supposed to come out with a tune for the XRT that alows you to leave everything hooked up but if MPG's are going to stay the same then I need to do some deletes. Thanks TJ

By unhooking the egr valve you should be able to gain 1-2 mpg

Will that set a code? will this mess with the DPF or cause any long term problems? I plan on getting an H&S miniMaxx and a DPF delete pipe when i can afford it but i have a family trip in a few weeks and would love a little better than 12mpg I seem to be getting now. Thanks, TJ



I can afford to get the EGR and cooler deletes right now if it doesn't throw a code.

Yes it will throw a code but no Ill effect's and once you plug it back in the light will go off My egr has been unplugged for over 5000 miles no troubles

Wow I've been getting just over 15mpg commuting mixture highway and city and that was with the first tank of fuel. Now I tend to speed because you can't feel it in this truck so just over 14 mpg. My 04. 5 got just over 16 mpg with the same commute. So I'm hoping this will get better for me as the engine breaks in. I have yet to tow with my new truck and my truck is completely stock.

Before you do the changes to your truck you might look at what your state has ahead of you for changes in emissions... My state is stepping up the enforcement to retain Federal Revenue Sharing Dollars... Now we just have a snap test for smoke... but I've been told that down the road their connect to the ADL connector under the dash and expect to look at the whole system and see that it works... . just like on the gas stuff...

Here each county has a different level of enforcement based on the tests done in the city and county... .

So before I did something that I might have to replace I'd check the laws...
