I had one hell of a time. I couldn't remove the old filter assembly... . it was on too tight from the factory. I tried putting an extension in the square hole in the bottom with a swivel adaptor on it, but I couldn't get it to budge, and I was afraid of breaking it, making the truck undrivable. I couldn't reach it fromn the wheel well without removing the fender liner, so I did that. I had the ability to reach it, but it was still on too tight. In my infinite wisdom, I used the strap wrench that I use to remove the oil filter and with my luck it still wouldn't budge and I wound-up cracking the housing. I was pretty much screwed at that point because I didn't want to dirve it and take a chance of sucking a plastic chip into the fuel injection system.

At that point I called my insurance company and told them my truck wouldn't start and asked them about how to get it towed (carried) to my Dodge dealer for service. They made all of the arrangements and it cost me $0.

My recommendation is to give it a try removing the canister by hand or with slight torque from below with a socket extension. If it turns, you're in good shape... if it doesn't, schedule a visit at Dodge and let them do it for $40 or $45.

If it comes loose, changing it out is a piece of cake, if not, you could have a cow pie.
