I was hooking up my flatbed trailer and this message came up after I hooked it up. It has been a couple of weeks and I continue to get this message every time I start the truck. I have towed one of my other newer trailers and all the functions work. (Lights, running lights, lft and rt signal, and brakes. Any ideas on why this message is coming up would be appreciated.

You have a problem with the trailers brakes if the message only comes up with the flat bed attached.

Check the trailer plug. If the contacts are round, take a small screwdriver and put the blade in the slot of the contact and spread it a little, to make contact. If the contacts are flat look for one or more that are bent and straiten them out like they schould be. See if that doesn't correct the problem.

My work truck is a '10 5500 and I have this same problem. It goes off about every 30 seconds to every minute. It either says service trailer brake system or trailer brake is disconnected. It's been doing this for about three years. I've had the truck in to probably 6 different dealerships and none of them could find anything wrong. It's been this way for so long that I really don't even hear the ding anymore.
