In the second half of 2011 the torque was increased to 800 ft/lbs.

I'm shopping for a used 2011 and would like to be sure that I get the later model.

Is there a way for me to identify a 2011.5?

Thanks

Larry S

Build date on the door sticker will identify what time frame it is built in. CPL or ESN will provide the engine ratings.

I think that the latter 2011 W/the 800 had a "high output" badge on the tailgate. I have the std output on my 2011,but the smarty has taken care of that.

I have the 2011 HO, as Bob said there is a HO badge on tailgate. Did not see anything on door stickers. Did not look at the engine stamping or decal.

Badges are like paint, they mean nothing about the ratings. Need the build date to be sure it is the correct time frame and ESN or VIN to get the original specs for the engine.

Thanks to all for your input.

Don't know what ESN or CPL mean but I'll figure it out.

Thanks again

Larry

Provide the full 17 digit serial number off the door sticker or registration of your truck or the 8 digit engine serial number found on the valve cover label.
We can go right into Cummins and look it up for you.

Thanks mwilson,

I get it now. ESN - engine serial number.

And, the door sticker number will work for me.

Thanks

If you prefer that your VIN is not floating around on the internet you are welcome to e-mail it to me.

The tailgate badge will still be a good indicator, just like the "C" on the front fender means that it is probably a Cummins. Sure, someone could have removed it, or added one. I personally have NEVER seen anyone put the Cummins "C" on a gasser, but it could happen. If you find a 2011 that has a build date (on the drivers door) for 2010 it will probably be the SO. The later in 2011 the build the more likely it will be a HO. Of course, since some said you cant go by the badges because they could be changed. There is no way to know if the engine has been changed or not. Like I have posted before, the biggest difference between the two is software. IIRC the front vibration damper and the torque converter where the only hardware changes.
