It's a rainy evening and I was bored and browsing the Dodge website.

The Build Your Own feature with prices is now operational for the 2011 cab and chassis models if anyone is considering purchase of one or is just curious like I was.

when you build the laramie it says 17x 6 aluminum wheels. I heard ford was doing aluminum on their duallys... i guess dodge is too now... is this just aluminum front and outside wheel with steel inners or all six?

Ford has offered aluminum wheels on duallies for years. Ford's aluminum wheels are only on the outside dual and on the front. The inside dual is steel which makes it necessary to breakdown the wheel and tire to properly rotate the tires. Most Ford dually owners don't rotate their tires since it adds to the cost.

The dark gray metallic with Alcoa aluminum wheels makes a real good looking truck. We couldn't see all of the MSRP sticker in your photo but it appears to be a very well optioned Laramie or SLT also. Someone will buy that one and have a fancy tow bed installed and use it for towing a big fifth wheel or living quarters horse trailer. That big number on the bottom line is extremely ugly though

I think those Alcoa wheels are the same ones SouthWest Wheel has been offering on their website for years.

Has anyone looked at a 2011 C&C up close yet?

Did you notice if the Aisin automatic has the toggle near the end of the shifter that allows selecting each gear individually like the pickups do?

That is the only thing my truck doesn't have that I envy about the pickups.

Engine specs are identical, I believe. Only difference between the '11 and my '08 (besides the fact my '08 doesn't have a payment book) is the DEF tank as far as I have been able to learn.

I just looked up their website and they do have push button on shifter. I am going to wait till 2012 to even consider another truck. I like mine tooo much. If I could talk my wife into a hauler type bed I would have one custom made. My truck rides rough enough now. I still can't imagine a 4500/5500 hauling a 5er and it not beating it a little. Although my Hitch-Crafter does a great job in cushioning the 5er ride now. Knowing what I know about my truck and it hauling I think the 4500 should have a much higher RV rating.

Cumminz,

My '08 has a push button in the end of the shifter also so it appears there is no change for MY2011. I saw a photo on the website that looked similar to my earlier model and assumed no change as you did.

That is one shortcoming of my C&C. When I shift from Drive to Tow/Haul mode by pressing the button recessed in the end of the shifter the only way to return to Drive is by pressing the button again two times in succession. This selects OD Lockout meaning an unwanted downshift to fourth/direct if I am above 50 mph then an upshift to sixth.

I have learned with time and practice that if I press the button once and then again using slow movements and a carefully timed delay, allowing perhaps a one second delay between pressing the button, and then lift my foot on the accelerater pedal as I do it, the Aisin will shift from Tow/Haul back to Drive bypassing OD Lockout and avoiding a downshift. Timing is critical to accomplish it.

I would prefer to have a gear selector toggle like the pickups do so that I could select 4th, 5th, or 6th gear and Tow/Haul mode independently of each other even though 6th would not be available in Tow/Haul.

But I don't want to be tempted to buy a new C&C to get that minor improvement.

I think it has a toggle.

Oh. I didn't understand what you wrote. You think the 2011 does have the toggle gear selector like your pickup?

Hmmmm. That's good for prospective buyers but selfishly I'm a little disappointed to learn that. I don't want to buy one.

I guess I'd better stay away from dealer lots for a year or two and pretend I don't know that.

I noticed the 4500 is available with 4. 10 gears. . but the 5500 isn't. . I was looking at the G56 trans and 4. 10 would be much better then 4. 44 or 4. 88 with the G56 overdrive etc. . what physical difference is there 4500 to 5500? spring pack?. . or just gvwr based on gearing etc etc. . ?? also noticed the 2011 chassis cabs have more colors available then the regular pickups. . I like the light green.

Thanks,

Deo

5500 C&Cs have more springs in the rear spring pack and a higher rear GAWR and GVWR.

Only a rodeo cowboy or a real tough guy can drive a 5500 on the street as a daily driver unless it is loaded very heavy with a contractor's box or heavy gooseneck trailer. Even a 4500 was too tough for me.
