Cool Unrestored Mack

After selling my 05 truck I haven't been here much. I am looking at getting a '19 or '20 crew cab for me and my crew.
My question is that my van is my only vehicle and it has a constant non clearing code of #2 cat not working right. RockAuto has a cat for about 160. Doing some looking says it could be the O2 sensors not reading right. All new sensors are about 230.
I know some of you are professional mechanics and work on these vehicles daily. What is your opinion on replacing first?

Hook up a scan tool and see what the values of the O2 sensors are. That will tell you if you need sensors or a cat - or both. An O2 sensor is an expendable item and will go bad.

I've replaced O2 sensors on cars that did NOT have a code and it got better mileage due to the fresh sensors.

Are the O2 sensors original to the car? Are the cats original to the car?

Remember that a "new" cat for $160 is NO WHERE NEAR as good as the factory cat was. The cheaper ones are not CARB compliant too. I've had too many times where the aftermarket cat didn't fix the problem or didn't fix it long term where the new factory cat did. Of course it is $$ vs $$$$$$$$. Sorry - nothing simple anymore.
