I'm considering replacing my 1999 2500 QC 2WD with the truck in the thread title and was curious if anyone knew what the mileage penalty is for using the 4.10 axle ratio over the 3.73? Also is there any other downsides to the 4.10?

The trailer I want to haul is a goose neck which will be close to 13-13.5k when loaded with a pickup camper on the front and a Jeep Wrangler on the back, similar to the image below.

Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

being a 12, if un-deleted, you won't see great mpg's as it is. i don't think the 12's have the 3.73 option, it's 3.42 and 4.10. and only towing 13K i don't think i'd go with the 4.10. if you have the 3.42 you could tow in 5th, and be fine,
if you ever think you'll tow heavier get the 4.10's.

I have a 12 with 3.73. mine is a 3500 srw. I haven't had that weight behind it yet, but it will do 12k without any issue. I wouldn't want 4.10 unless you're up much higher in gcvw .

4.10's will give you about 1,750 rpm at 60, a great towing rpm. With the 4.10's you will have no issue getting the load rolling on grade.

I know there's been lots of talk about towing. I checked the factory ratings charts before determining the truck I wanted. I also and decided to stay within the factory ratings so the 3.42 is out. Thanks for the reply's.
