Does anyone know if there's a difference between 2013 or 2014 Ram 3500 trucks being sold in California versus other states?

Put another way, would there any reason to avoid buying a 2013 or 2014 Ram 3500 in California (all else being equal)?

Thank you,

John L.

If any vehicle not having an emissions label stating "certified for sale in California" is attempted to be registered as new, you will not make it in and the VIN will be flagged forever. Most border states dealers order CA labeled vehicles. I have heard of 50 state vehicles still being denied, but have not confirmed it. Make sure you know the answer to the question before you go to DMV.

As I understand it, when I bought my 14, it complied with CA. I'm not sure at this point in time it matters. They probably build them to meet standards whatever state they end up in.

IIRC, they have been 50-state compliant since the introduction of the "600" engine in 2004.5. The 2004 305 and 250 HP engines were not available in five states.

Salesman at Dave Smith motors told me that all diesel vehicles are 50 state compliant.

I did have a buddy who flew to Nebraska a few years back to buy diesel pickup but California DMV refused to allow it in the state. Not sure about the details, only that he had to sell it out of California.

That's because as Sag2 said it didn't have the California Certification sticker on it. The '07 5.9's were 50 state compliant but we still had to have that cert. I ordered mine from Dave Smith and on the valve cover it has the certification sticker. That's the 1st thing the DMV clerk looked for upon inspection.
