2013 2500 Ram 600 miles and a Check Engine Light.......

600 miles on truck and a CEL. Got it driving around town with the family. No power loss or driveability issues.

Decided to do a search and see that multiple owners of the diesel powered 13s posting about CELs on the Ram and Cumminz forums. Some towing and some just driving around town. Seems like from what I read on those searches this is an unsolved issue for Ram at this point.

Anybody check their own codes with an OBD II reader? No saved message is stored on the EVIC.

Guess I'm taking my new truck back to dealer already. I would occasionally get a CEL on the 06 when I didn't wait for the wait to start light go out.

May go to the store and pick up an OBD II reader for my own peace of mind.

Yes, get the code reader, in this day and age, it almost becomes a must have in the tool box.

If you know someone with a Smarty, it will read the codes on your 2013. I used a 2003-7 model year type Smarty to read my 2013.

My 13 had 2 CEL's within 1000 miles. It has 3000 miles on it now and no more issues. Unfortunately, I think its part of the price of having a new diesel truck nowadays..

Yours may be a candidate for an ecm reflash. Early software set the cel with one glitch on a number of issues; the new software doesn't set the cel until two glitches.

Well....voodoo seems to work. For no reason at all I drove around with the exhaust brake on and in tow haul mode for a while. Restarted the truck with the remote start feature and low and behold the CEL went off and did not return.
