2013 6.7 ctd outdoorsman 60 k what to look out for?

My son is looking at a used 2013 6.7 ctd . Low miles 60k.
What should I look for? I believe it would still have rear leafs? How about the emissions? Does it use DEF?
Any advise would be great!

I have been on the prowl for a used truck. Yes it uses DEF. I would be concerned about 60k as the emission warranty runs out. There is a lot to go wrong. Check the hours on the engine and calc it against the miles if it's under 35mph it's probably a grocery getter. Don't buy it. Engine warranty has probably run out too. Tell him to buy something newer that still has emission and engine warranty.

Thanks for the reply. Will check engine hrs. for sure! He would be buying it from a dealer. I thought emissions are warranted for 7 years and or 150K ? We will be looking at it Thursday night.

I am in Canada and they are asking 40k Canadian dollars.

I'd run it down to your local dealer and make sure all the recalls and up dates have been done .

Ask if the TSB that turns on the rear fuel filter heater has been performed. Some trucks did not have this software/hardware recognized at the factory.

I did mine before the 3 year/36k warranty expired. If not, you might have to pay for it since the bumper to bumper has expired. And is he says it was performed, ask to see the dealer receipt. After 3/36, you have to pay for all flashes according to the dealers in Miami. I even ended up paying for one that (I found out later) was supposed to be covered by the federal emissions warranty.

If the TSB wasn't performed, tell him that he should have done that and negotiate the price.

The total engine hours on the EVIC is correct. But in my 2013 ( and I've heard it is throughout all 2013's) that the counter counts idle hours as drive hours. For example, I'm coming up on 5 years of ownership...... And I just turned from 7 idle hours to 8 idle hours.

So there may have been more idling than the EVIC will tell.

Since you are in Canada make sure that the vehicle was sold new and registered in Canada first, otherwise the warranty will not be valid.
My son bought a 2013.5 Ram Big Horn truck from a car dealer, not a franchised dealer. The used car dealer had bought this vehicle and imported the truck from Canada for resale in the US. In the US the recalls and the warranty are not honored by franchised Ram dealers on Canadian FCA vehicles.

Thank you all for your advice. The truck has only been registered in Canada. ( car proof report) It is being sold by a dodge dealer, so hoping I can maybe get an extended warranty.....

Just thought I let you know the outcome. My Son was on his way to come see me ( 1.5 hr. drive) I asked him if he called the dealer to make sure the truck was still available. He had not. So I called and spoke to my sales guy ( bought 8 vehicles in the last 15 years) , he said yes the truck is still for sale. Sure enough 30 min later he calls me back and tells me when he went to get the key ( he new we where on the way) he found out it had sold this afternoon.
Since my son was already here I found another truck at a different dealer, I called and asked is the truck still for sale and the lady said yes. So we drove another 45 min to see the other truck, once there we could not find any CTD on the lot after going inside after 15 min the same lady said oh I am so sorry it is conditionally sold. Asked if we could see it she said yes, another 15 min later she comes back and said sorry the deal has firmed up and the truck is shipped out for buffing.......These trucks sell like hot cakes up here....Feel bad for my Son wasting over 4 hours of driving for nothing....

Dealers have been calling owners asking if they want to sell their trucks. I guess low mileage used trucks are highly sought after.

I get a call at least once a month.
