So, I was drooling over the build site and noticed a few oddities:
3500 SLT 4x4 Regular Cab Long Bed DRW
To get the Parkview® Rear Back Up Camera, you have to get the 322-Watt Alpine-Premium Sound With 7 Speakers. (This is just the speakers, not the larch touch screen radio. )
To get the On/Off Road Dually Tires, you have to get the Popular Equipment Group.
I can't select a 3. 73 axle ratio with any transmission other than the gas engine and transmission. (Dually or not)
To get the Center High-Mount Stop Lamp with Camera, you have to get the larger touchscreen. (The screen is not required for the normal back up camera. )
There is a 4. 10 Rear Axle Ratio option, and there is an Add 4. 10 Axle Ratio option. I could not select the 4. 10 ratio until I selected the Add option.

The things manufacturers link make no sense to me.

Well, time to hop off of the soap box...

I have a broker looking for a 2013 and he says 3. 42 gears are STOCK?????? WTF. . Thats the gear ratio I had on my old 1964 chevy impala with a 2 speed auto power glide..... Fred, Fred, get with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

Just found the 2013 site and I see what you mean... If they dont allow 4:10's on a 2500 or 3500 without dually option, they lost my business. . And like you said, even 3:73 has to be gas???? 3:42 are not towing gears that I am aware of... ... .

The '13 build site is up and running. The 3. 42 issue has been discussed for months, where were you!?:-laf Lots of info in this forum about the '13's, check it out.

The whole 3500/2500 2013 is simple... the 2013 2500 is No more than the 2012 with New Interior and Urea System (much better) the 3500 is completely new Truck SRW/DRW (Motor is close to the 2500) ,New suspension, Axles, Frame, DL, Trans, Etc. The gearing and options is some what confusing, My guess is the Bed camera can be added later, that way you can get the convenience Group (ADC).

The 4:10 option in 3500 6. 7 is only available with DRW 4:10 gearing... . WTH... . I don't want 3:73 with the 6-SPD AS69RC.

I just became very interested last week. I found a broker to get me a good deal so I was not very informed on the topic. Thank you very much for your insight.

With 28K combined my 3:42 gears work just fine!

28K GCVW with 3;42???? wow. . Do you have the second transmission cooler on yours or just the deep pan?? My concern is once your pulling that weight, the rear axle does not turn/launch as quickly as a 4:10,and the transmission takes a beating being the weak spot in the drive train. .

I'm trying to get away from the dually as my travel plans have been zipped by fuel prices and I am pretty much not going out of a 200 miles diameter of phoenix at $4 @ gallon/8MPG. Going to a SRW short box as I wont need the 96 gal aux tank or "V" box in rear with supplies. Right now with the dual transmission cooler, the oil does not go over 210 degree's no matter what I do. What is your transmission oil run at ?
Whats your RPM at 70 mph in 6th with the 3:42?

Thanks in advance. Ed

Here's a excel workbook ... You can play with it to rpms based tire size and axle ratios

http://www.zoominternet.net/~crabjoe/2013_Ram_HD_Trans_Gear_Ratio_Worksheet.xls

Base on stock '13 3500 wheels (275/70/18) with 3. 42s at aprox 70mph in 6th:
68RFE: 1500 rpms
AISIN: 1500 rpms
G56: 1800 rpms

With the manual, it'll be fine, but with the autos, it's kind of iffy... Basically 6th becomes a Hwy mileage gear and you'll need to tow in 5th...

Go to 2. 85 With the Aisin69 5th=75 @ 2000RPMs, I wanted 4. 10 gearing , I see Why its not offered in SRW. This will be My 1st high/low ( which way you look at it) gear truck in 20 Years

I was told that my late 11 HO is the exact same as the Max tow 4:10 except for the gears and diff cover.

Towing at 81 outside temp the trans is at 161 it really does not change much going up or down the hills. At 91 the trans is at 171. The most I have seen towing is in the high 180's at the top of a long 6% grade with outside temps in the low 90's. In town stop and go I did see it around 225 with it around 90 outside. I do have the double deep pan and AMZ/OIL complete fluid exchange.

As far as RPM I turn 2,300 in 6th at 104 that is at the limit the truck will go. At 62 I am around 1,400 RPM that is where I usually tow at. Sorry not sure about 70. Pulls good at that speed on flat to hilly terrain. If it gets steeper I hit 5th. When I am on 6% grades I am in 3rd. I am at 55 or more on the 6% grades.

When taking off from a stop I take it easy until it get's rolling then I lay into it. 4:10's would be better but it does take off well until I start from a steep grade.

Dave Smith Motors said they will swap to 4:10 on the two axles but I am going to keep what I have.

If I get a 13 it will have the 4:10's and Max Tow.
