I have had a problem with my DEF system and have replaced the fluid and injector. I finely gave up and took it to dealer. After two weeks I have been told that the injector is installed upside down. Is there a right way to install? There is only two ways it can go but I couldn't see a difference.
I have a feeling I am going to have it out with them!
Thanks for your help
Ken

wire connector goes on the top, if I remember correctly.

whether it actually matters I don't know, because you never know when the dealer is BSing you or not.

If I recall when performing the injector volume test the spray was conical and I don't believe it would have made a difference which way it was installed. What faults were you having?

The CEL came on and I went to the dodge place so I don't know what fault came up. The service writer told me that the tech told him that the injector was installed upside down. I installed it about a month ago and thought I put it back just like it came off.

This is why its always a good idea to take lots of pictures to just be sure your hooking up wires & installing it the correctly...

I take pictures and videos of everything I do on my truck due to warranty. Some of it I use for forums to use for educational purposes.

Well... after about 40 miles it CEL came back on. Haven't taken it back in but I talked to a independent shop and he thinks it might be the DEF tank sensor that is reading DEF as bad. Is this hard to replace?

I think you may need to have the 67A recall done. If you had this recall completed, it covers all these items. The DEF tank sensor is a combo unit of level gauge, pump and sensor. On B/O and north of $2500 and about 2.5 hours labor! This is installed in bottom of the DEF tank. All fluid has to be drained. It has a lock ring on it that is similar to a fuel tank sender unit lock ring.

Are you sure that they cleared all the out standing codes? Sometimes they can hang up and reappear at a later date. You need to have a code reader to read the codes before you take it in. That way, if the CEL comes back on, you'll know if same code and should be back on the dealers time to fix. Have had that issue once, they tried to wiggle their way out but when pressed on the code, they ate the repairs! I had taken a picture of the code with timestamp on it.

The 67A recall has a 4yr/48K extended warranty. MY 2013 - 2018 RAM covered components
It covers the following, SCR - Ammonia Oxidation Catalyst - NOx Sensors (including Engine out and system out)
DEF Injector - DEF Injector Controller - DEF Storage Tank - DEF Delivery Lines - DEF Quality Sensor - DEF Supply Module, Pump & Temperature Sensor Unit.

@K Higgi, I'll second what @sag2 is saying! Don't take no from them. They tried to sell me a SCR and a NOx sensor to the tune of $3500 after I had the 67A done. They weren't even aware of the extended warranty the came with the recall. This is why I had mentioned about getting a code reader to be able to read the codes and be able to hold them accountable for what you brought it in for! One nice code reading device setup is the AflaOBD app or software for Windows. (no iOS support) You can use an Android phone or tablet along with an OBD dongle. The AlfaOBD software allows you to read and clear codes, make software changes and live data graphs. PM me for more info if you wish, I have no connection to Alfa, just been using it shortly after getting me truck. Good luck!

Hopefully you didn’t get ripped off, the def injector can only go one way. There are 2 studs and a dowel to prevent it from being installed incorrectly.

Anti seize can be your friend! Just remember the adjust your torque for the added lube!

Grade 5 x 1.32 and Grade 8 x 1.17

I add silver to my lugs and adjust accordingly! Haven't had one loosen up since owning the truck! (50K +)
