Purchased new in 2015 [new carry over]. Have 6k miles on it. Fully loaded with Freon drums, tools and aluminum shelving and headache rack, I recently got 24.5 mpg driving between towns and in city. Manually shifting the transmission at 1600 rpm and slowing down before having to stop or turn [very little use of breaks and minimum on the accelerator]. And for this good gas mileage its very important to not drive over 55 mph. The mileage may get a little better after a good break in but mayby not. For those of you who have hired men, don't expect this kind of gas mileage. They will be heavier on the accelerator [usually[. Troubles: no problems with engine so far but at 1700 miles had transmission problems [display would read: [service engine, service transmission and service hill holder]. Took about a week and a half for them to get the van fixed. Before getting the van problem fixed at about 9 days into the ordeal, the dealer said that if this part they ordered does not fix it, they will need to have a factory service tech come and see what is wrong with it. Luckily the last part they installed fixed it. At about 4k miles, idiot lights come on and serv. transmission and engine come on but went off very quickly. Had towed to dealer again but they said they could not bring up any fault codes? Have had no problems since. The heater does not work as good as my Chevy vans but works ok. If purchasing new, make sure the dealer will get the unit in for repair and get it fixed quickly. I feel that 1.5 to 2 weeks for an auto which had only 1.7k miles, was too long and they did not offer a vehicle to work out of until the new one was fixed.
Keep in mind that not just any Ram Dealer can work on these. I have a Dodge dealer in my home town but they are not allowed to work on this van [you'll have to take it to a dealer who has a special tech. trained on these units. I therefore had to have the van towed two times to a town 1 hr away. Thank goodness for the free towing. It was pitb getting them to tow the unit the second time. Overall I like the van but depending on how well everything works from here to 36k miles, I may be trading. [hope not, love driving it]
The engine and transmission look to be very difficult to get to and work on. The dealer mentioned this also. Next time I may get a Nisson [the engine compartments on these are wide open comparted to the Dodge Ram Promaster's. but are not as good a looking vehicle with the long penokeo nose.
Hope this info helps someone! Overall, I like the looks, mileage, comfort and setting up high in the cab, [unlike the Chevy vans].

You bought a good solid truck, this Truck, it's called "Fiat Ducato" in Europe, is by far the most sold transporter, millions of it are on the road over here.
You'll be happy with it over a long time, engine and transmission usually don't need much care so it isn't a problem with the hard get on it.
In case of, just pull engine and transmission as an assembly out of the truck, don't try it separately it's a waste of time. Otherwise 1 hour job.

US Mechanics need to get used to it. This trucks have nothing in common with the US Trucks before.

And the Engine is IVECO, not Fiat anymore.

I'm reading on Wikipedia that this is an automated manual transaxle. True?

Yes, it is a manual transmission that is shifted with servos. I drove one in Detroit a year or so ago and they are very strange the first time you drive it. You sure do not want to drag race one!

They might be ugly but they have all the features a business needs for service or delivery van.

Our local HVAC dealer replaced several Chevy vans in his fleet with gasoline powered Ram Promaster vans. They are working out very well in his HVAC service business.

I never see the Ram Promaster in our area, only the new Ford van. The Ford van looks much better..........

Sure, but in Europe the Transit is faaaaaar behind the Ducato and the Sprinter, no professional transport business buys them, only plumbers and such by them.
Ford Europe Engines don't last longer then 100000Mi around.
