I have a "new to me" 2015 2500 MegaCab 68RFE 4X4. My truck has that old school key thing that I have to insert into a ignition switch looking thing. But now that I'm looking around the net about my truck, I see some 2015 out there that have key fobs with push button start. Was pushbutton an option or something in '15? Why do some have the button. So far my "key thing" is the only thing I dislike about my new truck.

It was, and may still be, an option you could upgrade to on the 2015.

To have the push button, your truck must have the proximity key sensor system. My '14 Challenger has it while my '16 Ram does not. They both have the exact same style key fob but the Challenger additionally has a trunk open button. When opening the doors on the Challenger, you just put your hand under the door handle and it unlocks as long as it senses the key fob, push a button on the handle to lock. The button can be popped out of the ignition and then you use the keyfob to start the car by inserting and turning. Of course on both vehicles you can use the buttons on the fobs to unlock/lock the doors. I love just leaving my keys in my pocket and not having to take them out and it's become a pain in the Ram to have to take out the fob and start the truck with it. First world problems...

Thx guys for the quick response. Is it possible to "upgrade" the truck to a keyless system? If so, I can only imagine it is cost prohibitive.

Keyless Enter 'n Go(TM) $ 150 was an option. I like it on our Ram.

Includes the keyless door feature and push button start.

Remote Start System (N/A Manual Transmission)
$ 200 was another separate optional feature.

Most of these type features were including with Longhorn and Limited trims.

Wow, I didn't realize having to use a key was such an inconvenience. You'll see how much of an inconvenience it is when you push it to start and it doesn't.

The fob that goes in the dash is most likely to have an issue before the push button start.

Backup is to start it with my my smart phone and then see if button allows it to be driven.

BTW, that is why we bought the 8 year 120K extended warranty.

I still prefer the old style ignition to pushbutton start. I like my pockets empty when I drive. I would take my keys and that large fob out of my pocket to open the door and then put them in the ignition. When I was leaving my truck, it was necessary to grab my keys to turn off the truck so I always had them in hand when I left, without having to think about it. With the pushbutton start, I take my keys out to open the door and I then put them on the center console. It is oh so easy to forget them there when leaving since it is not necessary to grab them to turn off the truck.

Also, for some reason it bothers me that I cannot go from ACC straight to OFF, if it is on ACC it has to go to RUN then OFF. Or is there some way to do this that I don't know about? Not that it has ever been a problem but it feels wrong.

The only reason I pushbutton start is it came that way off the lot. I would not have ordered it.

So you do not have keyless entry, but have push button start. I carry my FOB in a belt patch and keys stay in my pocket. Put my hand in the door handle to unlock and push to start.

As for run after acc without your foot on the brake, the engine does not start as you past threw run to off.

So I will not physically wear out the FOB like I have on other long owned vehicles.

On edit: Do you have the hand in the door handle feature turned off in the 8.4 settings?

I've owned a lot of vehicles with fobs and have never had an issue. Two push buttons have failed on us.

That extended warranty only works when the vehicle is at the dealer. How many times has your vehicle broke down while sitting at the dealer?

I have keyless entry as an option. I turned it off. Not that that makes any difference to my reasons about pushbutton start. Having it on still left me with my keys in my pocket, where they are uncomfortable when I drive.

The truck won't start by putting it in Run, just like no other vehicle starts when you put it into Run, but it does wake up things like fuel pumps and engine electronics. Yeah, I know, so what. It just bothers me is all. It seems wrong that when I want to turn it OFF I first have to turn it to full ON.

I also turned off auto-dimming headlights. It high beamed too many cars. I am a much better judge of when to go to low beam.

I did leave on the rain sensing wipers.
