Have the 6'4" box. Can I use a regular fifth wheel hookup or do I need a sliding fifth wheel??? Some have said the sliders are a pain and they go back to the regular ones.:confused:

I have 2 friends with short bed trucks and they didn't used to use a slide 5th wheel hitch.... both have hit their cab at one time or another and have done damage to the cab.... both since have purchased the slide type 5th wheel hitch so that when they back up, into a space they don't impact the cab... one of the swears that he hit the cab going forward in a very tight turn in a parking lot....

On the other hand, if you have one of those 5th wheel trailers that has been built to handle the short beds you might get by.... I'd take the truck/trailer onto an empty lot and slowly make a left and right hand turns with the wheel locked in either direction.... than I'd back up and see just how far I can turn the truck/trailer and check out reverse...

Be careful of pin weight in a 2500. Your Rear Gross Axle Weight Ratting (GAWR) is not his enough for even medium size fifth wheels. Lots of info here and in the towing forum on this issue.

Who was that member that came up with this formula, GN/5th + SB = those that have hit their Cab & those who are goona hit the Cab.

Beaverguy: I have been towing a 33 foot 3-axle fifth wheel full of motorcycles through the mountains and the desert for more than 10 years - on the back of two different Ram 2500 diesels. Unless you are towing a massive trailer, you won't have any problem with pin weight. And there is an easy solution to the short bed - just buy a Pullrite Superglide hitch for a couple of hundred dollars more than a regular hitch and you never have to think about it again.

Whoever came up with the formula "GN/5th + SB = those that have hit their Cab & those who are gonna hit the Cab" apparently knew more about math than about towing a trailer...

The only reason to buy SB is to fit in garage, I would not want 400LBs of additional weight plus makes the used of the box worthless, .storing the device when Not in use, lubing , operating, the additional $$$, ALL can be resolve with LB / GN .

My Superglide weighs about 210 pounds. It takes two guys to pull it out - kind of like most fifth wheel hitches. That said, two guys can have it of the rails and out of the truck in less than 5 minutes. I can still carry two full sized dirt bikes with it in the truck, and I stack my gear on top of it. Seems pretty useful to me.

I'm not sure why it would be any harder to store than any other 5th wheel hitch, but mine rarely gets stored. it's mostly being used.

I lube it once a year if I remember, and It's worked perfectly that way for 11 years.

I don't "operate" it any more than I would any other hitch. I back into it, it latches automatically, and adjusts automatically as I drive - forward or backward.

So far my maintenance costs in 11 years are exactly $0, with the exception of the grease I keep forgetting to use...

Been pulling GN for 27 Years never seen the need or wanted 5th. As far as I'm concerned 5th wheel hitches to be in a Museum. The ONLY down side to GN is you must / Should have a LB.

If the (trailer) manufacturer cannot make/Allow a decent GN hitch for My travel trailer I'll pass and find one that does.

A guy needs to buy what they feel comfortable with, So if You like 5th with SB OK by Me.

I have a 5th wheel and a short bed. I chose a shortbed because....well, that's what I wanted. A crewcab short bed is already pretty long, It's difficult to park as it is. I didn't want longer. Somehow I've managed to survive with all the dramatic negatives mentioned above.

I am perfectly happy with a shortbed. Weird eh?

Why is it that this generations has problems with truth & Facts ? They call it negative... They also call planning speculation, when the speculation becomes facts its just More denial ?.

DRW are much harder to park and Back. CC/LB CC/SB SRWs , its the skill of the driver that counts, Kthaxton its your skill that allows to be happy with the Truck SB, You would have the same with LB. with even less hassle.

They need to start making RV's with Gooseneck rather than 5th wheel. Or at least give those who order one from the factory a choice. Why would i want that heavy obnoxious 5th wheel contraption?

Which generation are you referring to?

When you make a statement like this:

You state these things because they matter to YOU, they do not matter to everyone. So when you say "the ONLY reason...", it shows your ignorance.

Its NOT Ignorance its the other side of things , Its seem YOU have the Ignorance problem. What part of its OK By Me if You like SB don't you understand?

When you say "The ONLY reason....", it means there is no other side of things (in your mind). In reality, there are other reasons. This is the difference.

Please see above to see which of your statements I was addressing.
