The backup camera (in the tailgate) on my 2016 2500 is flaking out. It is a bad connection in the tailgate area. I haven't pulled anything apart yet, but was wondering if there is a common area where something goes bad - solder joint, kinked wire, etc. Kinda like the clock in the mid 2000 Corollas have a specific place there is a cold solder joint.

Thanks for the info!

First connection I would check is at the tailgate itself. There is a connection that allows you to disconnect it if removing the gate.

Yup, out of warranty by 21 days.

Haven't looked at it at all yet. Did this yesterday morning and I didn't have time, then last night it worked fine. This morning it didn't work again. Cargo camera works fine. Banged on tailgate and it worked - and kept working.

Yea, I'll check that connection that allows you to remove the tailgate - make sure all is fine there, then see about inside the tailgate. It had the tailgate warranty done and the tech probably wrapped the cord around something that moves. Not being sarcastic - that appears to be the dealer's capabilities.

My 2016 has had habitually problems. Sometimes it's a wavy screen or sometimes it turns green, and it's totally random.

There is a second connection inside the tailgate. It may have been moved during the tailgate recall.

It happened again so....
carefully lowered tailgate, disconnected plug at back of bed and plugged back in, moved wires, etc - no change. As a side note - those pins are gold plated.

Took panel off tailgate - tried to isolate movement of stuff and found it appeared to be a "connector" issue. Unplugged connector and there was a big of corrosion on 2 pins - NOT gold plated. Cleaned and reassembled - it has been working so far. Was surprised neither connection had any dielectric grease/ noalox / etc on the pins/connections.

So, we'll see if that was the only problem.

mine either goes green or looks like an acid trip. it happens randomly. I've taken it to the dealer that supposedly replaced the camera. The problem went away for awhile but it's back again. Seems to be some kind of short.

I was talking to a guy at work the other day. His does the same thing. Sometimes it works.....
