Ford is going to build the new 2016 F-650/750 series in house, with no help from Navistar, Cummins or Allison:eek: What are they thinking? You will not be able to get a Cummins, just a Ford 6.7 V/8, or gas V/10, not sure on the transmission but no Allison.

Hasn't Navistar been out of the picture for a few years?

Was at the Cleveland Auto Show over the weekend and spotted this F750 with a Cummins.

Nice clean cut, simple engine compartment. Not your typical v8 rat nest :-laf

I read about this today. Going in-house to build the chassis is a good move. The older, pre-Navijunk mediums and Louisvilles were good trucks from my experience. Going to Powerstroke power?:-laf:-laf:-laf:-laf:-laf:-laf:-laf

I'd be interested to know what Ford's current market share is in that segment. I would think this has to be a cost cutting move.

I would say navistar is still involved, I see their fuel tank, overflow tank and power steering reservoir in the picture.

I believe the photo is not of the 2016 version.

I agree, I assume the photo is of a current production model. I guess ford is trying to push their power train more and simplify things for their dealer service departments by only having their power train. Navistar is now producing their medium duty trucks with the ISB. I wonder what that will do to sales of the dt 466?

This is the first I'm hearing of this, but I have a hunch. Nick, you said Ford 6.7- that's the current powerstroke engine in super duties. It's all Ford and it's more complicated than ever!

Yes, the truck in the picture is of a 14 model.

They had several different Super Duties on display as well with the 6.7 Ford engine. Interestingly enough none of them had the hoods opened up. Apparantly not many Ford owners are too concerned with whats under there. I walked over to one and opened the hood, those things are JAMMED in there. You could not see an ounce of daylight looking down to the ground from top side.

Walking over to the Ram section, every one of the CTD hoods were proudly opened up for show and tell.

This is really good that Ford finally quit using Cummins engines.. MAYBE now the :"Ford owns Cummins" guys will figure out that has never been true. Hope for the death of that legend.

I guess it will have the 2nd generation 6.7 Power Stroke, no clue on the power ratings. The pickups will get 440hp/860tq.

To me, a 6.7 liter engine of any make is too small for a class 7 truck.

I'd guess their market share is very small compared to International's and Freightliner's market share. Most of their market has been in government bids where price is most important criteria. I wouldn't be surprised if Ford eventually follows GM and exits the medium duty truck market. This may just be another move in that direction.

I wouldn't argue with that statement. What was telling toward the end of the video was Bill's pointing out that engineering improvement comes from failures. What were all of Cummins' failures in the "B" engine, or in my old Mercedes for that matter? They seem to have realized the benefit of doing it right the first time.

Lol. The ford 6.7 as it sits in, say an '11 F550, has a WATER cooled CAC and it's packed under a battery. I just dunno.

On the local news this morning Ford announced they will be re tooling the Avon, Ohio plant to assemble the Ford medium duty trucks starting next year. Currently they are being assembled in Mexico. Not too often do you hear of anybody bringing manufacturing back into the states, good job Ford.

Indeed. I'm all for US jobs!! However the new F650 comes out, as long as it's similar to what's out now, it'll be easy to rip out a motor compared to a 550 etc. If they go retro like when they had full noses and separate hoods, that'll be a nightmare.
