Today was the first time hooking up my Keystone Raptor 5th wheel to my 2016 Ram 3500. The pin weight of the trailer is 1800lbs plus I have my hitch installed which weighs about 150lbs. Too my surprise the rear end on my truck dropped way more than I expected. Thus trucks pay load is rated at about 4300lbs. Is it normal for it to drop about 4 inches? I am definitely getting air bags.

I have 270 lbs of hitch, around 2400 pin weight right now and I go down 1-2". Your pin weight must be a lot than you think. Snoking

Even if it was 500lbs heavier than stated on the the spec sheet dropping to the point where my rear end almost sit lower than the front doesn't seem right.

Per Raptor's web site, the 300MP has a hitch weight of 2885 lbs. By design, the toy haulers have a heavy pin weight until you load the toys, that helps offset the pin weight.

Measure your before and after fender well clearance, use the top of your tires front and rear, don't guess. What does your door tag say your GVWR is? Do you have overload springs?

Nick

If your truck sits like this loaded then it's fine, I really doubt you need bags! My truck has the rear air from the factory.

Correct Nisaacs. That was a type-o on my behalf.

Well, 3000+ pounds is a substantial load (how much over 3k is the question), and I agree with Snoking that it's time to hit the scales, both with and without the trailer.

For an unequal reference, my '14 2500 sits level with about 2300 pounds of camper in the bed.

I just weighed my SRW 3500 SB 4x4 ready to tow, 8900 pounds and a half of the fuel tank had only air in it. Plus I am going to fill a 5 gal diesel can. SNOKING

When you consider how heavy the new trucks are and the power increases they have, the fuel mileage is great. My '01 weighs 7500 for comparison.

When I set my 3150 pound dry weight truck camper in my 2016 to make sure it fit, it only dropped 3 or 4 inches and looked level!

My 5th wheel is 2450 on the pin and the truck drops 2 inches which makes the truck level. I would say you have alot more pin weight than you think.*

No way your pin weight is 1800 lbs... Keystones site lists pin weights between 2800 and 4000 lbs for the 2016 line of Keystone Raptor 5ers... Those are big, big trailers with heavy pin weights as mentioned to counter the toy weight in the back.. I would say you are closer to 3500 lbs. Have you scaled it?

My pin weight on my 5er is about 2,250 lbs. The truck sits nice and level with the trailer on the B&W hitch.

I looked up the specs for your Raptor and saw that the fresh water tank can hold 110 gallons of water. Depending on the location of your fresh water tank, it can add a lot more pin weight, so the question I have is, are you hitching it up with it ready for camping or is it at the real dry weight?
