Does Uconnect Nav give height restrictions?

I'm thinking about a new fifth-wheel.

OK fella's,

I'm a proud new owner of a 3500 megacab dually. Been researching all I can about what type of hitch to get for my fifth wheel. I have read all the posts I can find. I see some that say you must have a slider. I have all the posts that say I have slider and never use it. My 5th Wheel is a Heartland Big Country that the front cab is designed for a 88 degree turn for short beds. I have called Heartland and they stand by that. With a short bed I don't need a slider up to 88 degrees. I have spoken to my local camper dealer today and they said all short beds must have a slider. SO I guess it will really come down to who I believe the most and what I will feel comfortable with. I get that. But they also told me that they do not have a hitch that Reese will sell me because Reese has not ok'ed the 2017 Ram 3500 for any of their mounting kits. The manufacturer was a strong Reese supporter. And I currently have a Reese, so I am ok with that brand. I currently have a 16k Reese nonslider that they initially said I could just buy the mounting kit and then buy the slider part and install my saddle onto it. That may be the most cost effective way. But of course, the mounting rails become the problem with that scenario. If the mounting rails and brackets cost near $300, I am leaning towards going a completely different direction by using a turnover and companion slider, I know I am rambling a bit, but I want to go the most cost effective but yet the best way.

So here are my questions -

1. Is there a difference between the 2015/2016 3500's and the 2017's?
2. Has anyone mounted traditional rails in a 2017? If so, what brand did you use?
3. Has anyone actually towed a Heartland fifth wheel with a megacab? Slider or no?
4. Is the B&W hitch worth the $1700 total cost for the turnover mount and companion slider?

Looking for real world experiences and advice.

Thanks!

B&W has a new Puck/slider coming out the first of the year. RVK3670. B&W is WELL worth the $$$!!!

I have a longbed (real truck :D ) but I also have the BW gooseneck turnover ball in my bed. If / when we but another 5ver, it will ride on a BW hitch. Good stuff

I can't really comment as to the Heartland claim that you do not need a slider but I can state fully.

Their are two types of short bed pick-up truck users: Those that use a slider hitch and those that wish they had the slider hitch after the cab is damaged and the window is broken by their 5er!

I had a Keystone Cougar with the 88 DEG corners and I always used a slider hitch when backing into my driveway and in a campground with tight maneuverability, it is cheap insurance. I now have a 2016, 34RL Cedar Creek and even with the slider extended it get's real close to the cab and window when backing up.

I have a 2008 Mega Cab with the short bed and I use a Reese manual sliding hitch with my truck. We have the same bed length and clearance between the bed and cab. I checked the Ram Body Builders Guide to see if this is still true and it is.

I would get a slider hitch for sure. I did not have to worry about it as I bought an 8 foot bed truck. But with the mega, you had no option.

Real truck, huh#@$%!haha. I had a real truck for the past 13 years. But now my kids are comfortable. And I really like my toy truck.

At one point, we we're very close to a Mega and sometimes wished we had. We just use the 8' bed way too much though. My kids can by a comfy car for themselves after college :D

The B&W Sliders will be released after the first of the year. Pic's??? I have no Idea where I found them!

On the subject of kids, ours rode in the front bench seat for many years and then they were in HOG HEAVEN with the 98 extra cab. Kids get used to whatever they are given. No wonder we are seeing so many "SnowFlakes" and "ButterCups" in society. All JMHO!

Isn't the Mega Cab box a few inches shorter than the short box trucks? Will your dealer that says it will work repair your truck if it gets damaged? Have him put it in writing if you go his way.
Good your asking questions now.

Ended up picking up a used pullrite superglide 24K. And my Mopar underbed mounts came in today too. Now to get them mounted. Spoke to a dealer in Missouri that would install them for $100. Really great folks to talk with. Unfortunately, they are about 14 hours from me... so I called two of the local Ram dealers about install. One quoted me $450 to install them - labor only. The second referred me to a body shop that normally charges $475, but would take car of me and do them for $399. Think I will just tackle this myself. I'm not going to shell out that much money for taking loose 6 bolts on the bed and drilling four holes. Anybody do this themselves already? Any advice for me in advance?

I found them in my inbox and posted them! SNOKING

I'm a fan of the B&W goose neck system and companion hitch.... I just installed a new goose neck hitch in my "new to me 2013", and it was an easy installation... with only a 3 1/2" hole in the bed... and have moved my companion hitch from the old truck to the new one.... the new owner of my old truck is very pleased to get the B&W goose neck hitch already mounted.... OF course there are a lot of great hitches... but I can share that after a small fleet of trucks (4) we've always used the B&W stuff and have been very happy.... but look at them all, and than make your choice.

I installed Pull Rite slider in my first Dodge truck and it was not too bad a task. Hard part was drilling holes in a brand new truck. Pull Rite sent me a pattern that I used to drill the holes necessary, but not sure you will need to do that with the newer trucks.
