John Deere 4440 Charging Problem

My son has a 2017 Charger RT with many options - very pretty car.

So far he has had the following:
  • Uconnect screen delaminating.
  • Top edge of the door panel glue releasing allowing the vinyl to bend up by the window.
  • Radio flaking out and acting like some is pressing all over the screen.
  • driver door window switches flaky
  • a few smaller things.
So, is this the new norm? I was considering getting a Challenger to drive, but don't want to buy problems if this is the new Dodge standard.

Just curious to hear what others have experienced.

I have no personal experience with them, but a guy on my crew at work has one. It’s either a ‘17 or ‘18 and has been plagued with problems. It’s had every wheel speed sensor replaced, some twice, many different radio issues, two brake calipers seized when car was a couple months old, power windows work intermittently and car randomly loses connection with key fobs. The key fob issue has left them stranded a few times. There may be more issues, these are the ones I remember.

Man, it makes me like my little S2000 more and more....super fast, great on the curves, and it NEVER BREAKS! Hahaha, literally never. And I have driven it pretty hard. 16 years old, but low miles (50,000). I have done the brakes once. Tires a couple times. Literally no other repairs. Everything is simple if you did need to fix something. I do maintenance by the book. Do I miss my old 69 Roadrunner with the BB? Sure, it was fast in a straight line and easy to work on, but for the whole driving experience the S2000 is light years ahead. Best gearbox ever! Rear wheel drive rocks.

From Alldata here are some TSB lists.

They don't have an "RT" listed, so not sure what exactly makes an RT, I picked a few different ones AWD, RWD and the sort. And tossed in my truck as an example.

My 2018 Gasser is also 3pg long so really would not judge top much on the total number, they are pretty generic at times. And not all vehicles have the need for these TSB.

Just something to review.

Probably like everything else crank up the radio.....

Sounds like a nice ride.

Almost sounds like this car was a victim of water damage.

My 2015 Ram and 2019 ram have both had mysterious behavior of the radio....long story short they both had defective steering wheel controls for the radio. Neither one have had any problems since replacing the switches.

My Challenger was very reliable and well built with the exception of a failed wireless control node that caused it to start by itself randomly. Once they replaced that it was nearly flawless.

Thanks for the TSBs.
The radio flaking out appears to be isolated to the radio. Dealer wants 1K to replace it.

So - anyone know of a place that rebuilds/repairs these radios? It seems the screen isn't easily replaced as I didn't find a place that sells just the screen.

For the last week, the radio has been working just fine....go figure. When I say radio - it isn't autoselecting things.

Thanks for the idea on the steering wheel controls. Doubt it is that since the radio is doing things the buttons shouldn't be able to control. Excellent idea though!

Thanks!
According to the dealer the 17 Charger has a different radio and this won’t fit. Then again this is the same dealer that said metal shavings and dust is normal in a different from breaking in. About 3oz worth. And the problem was was a bit worse because I didn’t change the gear oil on the towing schedule. I do not remember the exact mileage but it was around 30,000 miles. One big thing, this was the FRONT axle. Amazing how much they think a FRONT axle does when towing a 6000-8000 pound trailer.
I need to pull the radio out to verify.
