New to this forum and new to Dodge/Ram. I had a 2001 Ford F250 7.3 for 17 trouble free years. Decided to change to get modern interior, better braking and exhaust brake.

Bought a 2018 3500, Crew Cab, short bed, 4wd, diesel and Aisin trannie. What a huge change over my old truck. The 7.3 was 100% reliable, but new trucks have come a long way is all ways except complexity and DAF. Was able to sell my truck for 60% of what I paid for it 17 years ago. Not a bad investment.

I have read the 2018 3500s have 930 ft lb torque. Is that true with the single axle with Aisin trannie? What is the HP rating?

I only have 500 miles on the truck and first tank got close to 17 mpg (calculated, not the computer). Could not be happier.

Thx for your reply.

As far as I know the torque/hp rating is just based on the transmission. Your will have the max with the aisin. The only delta between the DRW and SRW is the axel ratio. Only 3.42 available with SRW.

385/930. All Aisin transmission trucks are that rating for HP/TQ as the HO engine, the tow ratings go up as gear ratios go lower.

Thanks. A big change from the 250 hp / 505 ft lb torque from the 7.3. I have not put camper on yet, or towed heavy trailer, but should be a big difference. Really looking forward to the bigger brakes, factory exhaust and trailer brakes. Did fine with my Ford for 17 years, but the change should be significant. Never had a complaint on the power I had towing, just control stopping. I sure hope the new Cummins is a reliable as my 7.3 which had zero issues. I replaced a weeping water pump seal, that was it.

Another big change is how quiet the new diesels are. My dog was could always here me coming and be anxiously waiting for me at the door. Now I have to wake him up. A good change.

Don't hold your breath . 90% of engine problems will be smog related garbage. The engines and trucks are great just the complexity of the smog systems are vexing.

I bought the 8yr/120K Max Care warranty and just do not worry about it. It is just such a pleasure to drive, that offsets any trips to the dealer for recalls and such. They give me a loaner or rental while they have it. First time for TSB's in was in and out in 3 or 4 hours. For the T05 and T25 recalls they had it for two days. SnoKing

It’s been better now

I have to agree. My 2014 2500 has constant DEF problems. They finally redesigned and replaced the DEF chamber and it’s been working like a champ since. I just ordered a 2018 3500 last week, so it wasn’t enough of a problem to make me run anywhere else. I ran my 2500 out west on a camping trip last year slick with just a tonneau cover through the mountains twice. 24.4 MPG round trip. You will love the truck.

Almost 40K on my 2016. Zero emission related issues, or any other issues.......so far

Very happy with the truck so far. Only have 1300 miles on it. Getting 17 mpg so far (manual calc), computer says 18.5.

Question - how do you activate the heated rear view side mirrors? Are they automatic?

Rear window defrost button, even if you do not have rear window defrost. SnoKing

Did not order mine. I found in searching inventory within 200 miles of me. Found it online, had exactly what I was looking for. The vehicle was in route, I negotiated deal while it was in transit and got it about 3 weeks later. Dealership drove 200 miles to have my sign papers at my house. And then drove the vehicle to my house with a full tank of diesel. Never met the actual guy I was dealing with, but could not have been happier with it all. Was hoping to get an end of the year 2017, but could not find one set up as I wanted. Got a great deal on a 2018.

Thanks. I have a rear window defrost button, and assume rear window defrost given it is a Laramie.

It's a option on the Laramie for 2018 as in previous years.......the heater wire/element is on the inside glass surface, looks like it is silk screened on.......easy to see.
