Well looks like my thoughts about late model RAMs with factory hitch not being capable to 30k is being remedied. Read it and weep:

Starting with the 2018 model year, the Ram 3500 will offer a segment-dominating 930 pound-feet of torque.

The American automaker worked closely with Cummins to improve the 6.7-liter diesel engine, allowing it to produce an additional 30 lb-ft of torque. The updates to the engine include higher boost limits through a variable geometry turbo, and flow rate increases through the fuel delivery system.

In addition, Ram announced a 30,000-lb fifth-wheel towing uprating that is made possible by an in-house hitch design from Ram Engineering. The upgraded hitch allows the Ram 3500 to haul the heaviest trailers in the industry, allowing customers to move away from Class 4 and Class 5 trucks to haul trailers that would otherwise be limited to 24,000 pounds. Pricing for the newly-engineered hitch design is $1,395.

The 2018 Ram 3500 Heavy Duty maximum gooseneck and conventional hitch maximum trailer weight ratings are 31,210 and 20,000 lbs, respectively.

Look for the 2018 Ram Heavy Duty pickup trucks to arrive dealerships this month.

“Ram maintains capability leadership by delivering the highest-ever torque rating for a pickup truck and heaviest fifth-wheel trailer towing capacity,” said Mike Manley, head of Jeep & Ram Brand, FCA Global. “We understand the attributes most important to our customers within the heavy-duty segment; they demand hard-working, long-lasting capability.”

Wasn't the max trailer weight already over 31,000 for 2017?
Or am I looking at the wrong chart.
I don't think they changed GCVW they simply added a hitch that was rated to tow at 30k. Kinda stupid to advertise a truck at 30k and only hitch for 25k don't you think?

"made possible by an in-house hitch design from Ram Engineering. The upgraded hitch allows the Ram 3500 to haul the heaviest trailers in the industry"

This is pure BS! That is simply the same 25K Curt hitch RAM sells that is a Chinese Made POS.

When 5er's are in that weight range they are triple axles and have 15-20# pin and that will mean 4,500-6,000 pin and be within RAWR.

CUMMINZ do your self a favor and compare the CURT to B&W side by side then report back what hitch you would trust at 30k.

Waste of my time why is it a favor to me. Here is the only hitch I would trust to 32k. It is partial my design. It even has an additional piece of 1/4" plate for stability and four extra attachments to the frame. Also the main issue is the new 2018 hitch is MARKED 30k which saves yours and RAMs *** in court.

Maybe off base a little from the OP. Here is one of the reasons I have never liked the 10ply 17" wheel and tire. I think this is the reason for the swish in the 17" tires. Riding under severe load situations and way many highways are constructed with bad shoulders and rounded paved surfaces. Your truck tires are subjected to many conditions beyond your control. These photos show how you are not always loading six tires and when some of you are loading right up to the max or just under you are severely overloading your tires and don't know it. Tires wearing out early?

^^ I agree with ya to a point but most people in general don't drive on the edge of the shoulder like that. Pretty confident that all four rear tires on a DRW maintains contact with the pavement the majority of the time while towing.

That looks awfully similar to the Hensley Manufacturing TS3 hitch that I have.

Not intending to take this topic off direction, but with the capability of these new trucks, we have greyed the lines in to true medium duty territory. At what point will the offerings from International, Freightliner, etc. start to be effected by Ram, Ford, and GM taking what used to be their market share?

Anyone can "CLAIM" any rating they choose, just look at Craftsman shop vacs they "DEVELOP" 6 HP. Does anyone really believe that???

CumminZ what are you obsessed with the RAM hitch rating when you already have a hitch that is rated at 32K???

BTW what does your RV weigh?

12V, I think I made it pretty plain many posts ago that we were specking out a new truck. Comparing a new RAM with an M2. And to answer jg the RAM will never equal a well equipped M2. My Champagne has 18k gvw. As long has RAM has 17" tires it will always be a puppy in the industry.

Well, you actually answered my question stating that you are already comparing an M2. FYDA Freightliner here in PA has quite a selection of M2 chassis on the lot listed starting in the mid 60's. Now, they are long wheelbase, but for comparison sake, they will do. For that mid 60's to low 70's price point, you get a Cummins/Allison combo, air ride, 22.5's, etc. For someone looking for a dedicated tow rig, it is worth at least thinking about.

Sounds like you best be gettin a M2!
