Bluntly you can't do much worse than the OEM Firestone Transforce HT. They were near the wear bars at 18K miles and short warranty time for radial pull. Not unusual for fast tire wear in the extreme heat on our road surfaces. No treadwear warranty. The only good I can say is they were a good handling tire as far as not squirmy. Discount Tire employees warned me they don't last long.

So my question is if the Optional ($295) Destination A/T tires are any better? They have a 50K mile treadwear warranty listed on tire sites.

Otherwise I am tempted to have the dealer put something else for rubber on it.

I got OVER 80K on my original Transforce HT's, and the same on the second set that I bought from a guy who took them off his new truck. Granted, I run nearly 100% Highway.
From what I've heard and seen on the forums, the AT's wear faster than the HT's.

I run the General Grabber HTS 60's and have for a while, and am currently getting fantastic mileage out of them, beyond what my original firestones did. And they handle great, and look great with outline white letters.

Another thing, I don't do normal tire rotations anymore, only rotate the front to the back after the rear tires wear out, then buy a new pair for the front.
For some reason, the rears wear out faster than the front...:D:D
But even at that, I get 80K or better out of those rear tires.

I don't know if this will help or not, but here are the Destination AT's on my '07 right now. They have 24K on then currently. Sorry for thr poor quality pictures but the weather here isn't very cooperative right now.

What happened to long lasting OE tires??? I would easily get 120k with Michelin 3rd gen take offs and 100k BFG's on my 98 4x4.

The last set of long lasting OEM tires we had were the Michelin LTX AS that came on our old 2004.5. First set went 100+K I believe. Second set were near 100K also. It's too bad those tires were discontinued.

I don't understand why Ram sticks with these Firestones, I'll hand it to Ford for making their upper model Super Duties come with nice Michelins.

An old boss of mine hauled hay for a living with his F250, truck ALWAYS had weight on it, Max GVWR I'd say 80% of the time, the rest was over... He would get 45-50k out of the Michelin's, and he had a lead foot for sure. Half city/ half highway.

I had destination AT tires on my old 98. They were certainly decent tires. I had bad luck with Toyo ATs.
Personally, I like the BFG AT, but they aren't the best for straight highway.
The Transformer HT tires on my Cummins were fine, so long as it was dry. In the wet they were marginal at best, and in the snow...forget about it.
I have Michelin LTX tires on my 16 Cummins right now, and they are pretty good.

Best OE tires I’ve ever had were the Michelin Cross Terrain SUV that came on our 03 4Runner. I actually bought a second set when they wore out. They are discontinued now.

I have 30k miles on Firestone Transforce AT's. I checked the tread depth today and they are down to 8/32nds which is a under half. I have been very pleased with them to date as they have been very reliable and are wearing perfectly across the tread. I have centramatics on the truck too. My concern now is that the tires don't have much traction on wet streets as the tread has reached halfway point. I will probably run these one more year and then replace.

A buddy gave me a set of 3rd Gen wheels with BFG Rugged Trails on them. They had 30K on them when I got them and I put another 50K on them.

I just remembered that a friend bought an 18 about the same time I did (spring of 19) and it had the Firestone AT's. 3 of them were showing delamination earlier this year so he went with the Cooper AT3 XLT.

You can do worse than the OEM Firestone Transforce HT. Two of my six OEM Nexen slipped belts by 12K miles.

I will cross Nexen off the list although when I drove the DRW I was thinking at least they ain't Firestone Tires. :(

I lost two Firestones as they had radial pull. Pulling teeth I got 75% credit from Firestone on just one and used the spare for the other bad one. Very little treadwear is allowed for radial pull warranty and they wear fast. First alignment found it and they were beyond that wear point by then. What a PIA that was rotating tires all day till we figured out what ones were the problems.

@Ltngdrvr Thanks for the General Tire idea. They have come a long way since the OEM stuff for '90s GM.
