I put 215s in and I didnt notice a big difference, the main reason I did it was I had the "little" 160s and I wanted to put less stress on the pump... since I have my plate slide forward. and just the peace of mind of having good injectors

oh. . and I had a lope in the idle that I figured was from a substandard injector. Jim

I have the TST #8 which is moved slightly forward, so it mimic's a #6, I just had 215's put in and did not notice a lot of diiference at speeds under 40 mph, but over 40 mph there is a big difference, I can't wait to tow the 5vr. The biggest change in power that you will notice is when you go see Bill K. @ DTT for a TC & VB, then you will be able to transfer all of that power to the ground and you will FEEL the power instead of just hearing noise. :D

On my stock truck the 215's gave me a solid 2psi of boost (3psi at times) and a very noticeable difference in the day to day driving. Mileage seemed to stay exactly the same.

I think the HP increase for the 215's over the 180's is 20-25HP on average.

Say tschwab, didn't your 98. 4 come with 215's from the factory or am I missing something?

I hope to be puting my 215's in next weekend. I too have the #6 plate all the way forward and like Jim I'm mostly looking to be easier on the pump. For what it's worth, with the #6 plate all the way forward with the stock injectors, I dynoed 268 rwhp. I plan to dyno in Muncie this year, we'll see what the actual difference is.

Have 155k on original 180 hp injectors in my 97. Wanting to upgrade to 215's but the Turbo & Injector shop I visited needs to know the Part #'s & is worried about using 215's in the auto equipped 180 hp trucks, because of the difference in the pistons. I'm also wanting to know the bosch part #'s for the 180 AND 215 injectors if anybody has them. As many of you are using the 215's in auto trucks, so it must work out alright. I'm putting too much fuel through my original injectors, & want to move up slightly.

If you are only running a 230hp plate (#8 I assume) I don't think you are trying to push too much fuel through a stock injector.

Certainly the 215's will run nicely in your pump. As I said I gained ~2psi (sometimes 3psi) of boost from the 215's alone (over my stock 180's).

I was unaware that there was a difference in pistions from the 180hp truck to the 215's. Is this right  And if it is, why would it matter. There are plenty of guys around here with 180 pump trucks running 370's injectors, some with and some without 191 Delivery Valves. I wonder what that shop would think of 370's and 191 delivery valves :D

I might start looking for a little different shop if it were me. JMHO

As far as injectors, the 215's are expensive new. I would suggest you call Piers at PDR, he will take care of you www.piersdiesel.com, he may even have a used set for you (this may not be an alternative for you, because I don't know if you do your own work)

Take care,

Ryan

There was a post a long time back about breaking the tips off injectors with too high a pressure or trying to squeeze too much volume through small injectors. I've had good luck with the stock injectors, but at 155k, I think they need replaced anyway, & I can change them out myself. I'm getting 31 lbs boost WOT now, and putting 278 Hp to the roller in locked up "D". The TST plate is slid forward just slightly. I don't normally drive it like this much, but it's nice to know it's there when I need it. I think the 215's would be a nice touch, & you're right, I think I need to go to a shop that can at least find the part #'s we need. There is a difference in the pistons on the 5 spd. 12 valve trucks, It's either the thickness of the top ring, or the distance from the ring to the top of the poston, can't remember which.

278HP out of a #8 plate (230hp) in an auto is pretty impressive.

Hmm... So there is a difference between the 215 pistons and the 180 pistons. I learn something new everyday :) Just to be sure, can anybody else verify this?

I know there is a difference in pistons between the 24 valves and 12 valves, but I think you guys might be jumping the gun here. I think we need to hear from Piers or Joe Donnely, or someone in the know before a rumor gets started.

Next thing we'll hear is that Dodge owns Navistar or something. Just joking around. But we should be patient until someone who really knows speaks up. :D

Its on fritz's site... . dennis is right but it is the difference between the different years, not between manual and auto.

I've also got the TST #6 slid up and 215 injectors. Not sure of the actual power numbers, but it definitely feels stronger. The boost goes past the 30# hashmark on my Westach guage - maybe to 33 or 34 psi when really pushed. I sure do want to save my pennies (ok - dollars) and get involved with upgrading my transmission. After that, I may wander over to a dyno and burn some fuel.

If you want to get 215's, you might try to run a TDR classified ad. I did and got a set with 50K miles for cheap from a fellow Rammer who was upgrading to DD3's. Recycling is great!:D

Stopped at ProDiesel in KC yesterday. If I bring my old 180hp injectors in, They can put the NEW Bosch 215hp nozzles in, shim (to calibrate) if needed & pop test for about $60. ea. No need for entirely new complete injectors, the body & spring is the same, and only the nozzle assembly needs to be changed. The Part # we came up with for the 215 nozzles is... ... . 0433175081. Another technitian told me the 180 hp nozzles have 5 . 009 holes. The 215's have 5 . 010 holes. Stopped by a Cummins shop also, and they wanted $78. 90 exchange for Recon injectors. They are set up & tested, but may OR may not have new nozzles, might be cleaned, used ones if they are with in specs. So I guess they're out!

Dennis If ii was you I would go with the DD2 or the bully dog version rather than have ProDiesel swap the nozzels.

I have not had very good luck with getting information from Prodiesel.

Hi Adam, I think I might have solved my problem, I just called Piers Harry, & they had a low mileage set of 215's that they had installed in somebody's truck last year. The owner decided to move on up to 370's, so they pulled them, cleaned & tested them, & I bought them with a one year warranty, new washer kits for $250 with no exchange. While I was on the phone, I ordered the gov. spring kit too. When I get it going, I'll see you at the Mirriam Dr. dyno (We can all watch my transmission shoot craps)... . DDG

Thats good Dennis.

You cannot go wrong with anything from Piers!

If you need help on the install, give me a yell I've done both a couple of times.

Adam
