I have a friend with a '93 5 speed, and he wants to know if my old 215 injectors will work in his engine. He would also like to know if its possible to change to an NV 4500. Any comments are appriciated.

I do believe the injectors are not interchangeable, all the Companies listing them for sale break the year models at up to 93, then 94-98 12 valve, then 24 valve 98 on up.

Yea, what he said. :D I believe the thread is different on the earlier ones, and there are probibally other differences since the earlier engines had a different head.

There are two different sizes for the 1st gen trucks. The earlier ones used a 9mm sleeve or collar (my word cause the correct term eludes me at the moment) and the later 1st Gen trucks used 7mm sleeve/collar. The change came about as a result of possible cracking between the injector hole and valve seat due to high temps. The smaller, 7mm does not do this, or atleast no were near the likelyhood of the larger nozzles.

As for the 215's I can't be positive but I think you may be able to put the tips into the appropriate fitting and run them. To be safe, call PDR or Diesel Dynamics and ask. Better yet, there has to be a "Nozzle Head" who knows the definitive answer here...

I do NOT want to cost you money/parts or breakage !!!

DIESELNV,

There a quite a few first gen trucks on the TDR with the NV4500 transmission. From what I have read they all seem to be very satisfied with the change.

The 215 nozzles can be put in the right holders with parts changes. However, they do not result in any performance increase.

I would suggest them, but only if you were at very high atitude ( above 5000 feet) all the time, because of thier excellent smoke control characteristics.

However, there's no reason to use them for anything else. The holders the nozzles come in orginally will NOT work in your truck, as the high pressure c onnector is wrong. There are also changes inside and the pressure is set higher than the original injectors.

they will work fine. use the thin washer and take your original injector and set the pop-off presure the same as the ones that came stock. I believe the 1st gen has a lower pop-off pressure. this would not be a bad method to go if u can get thios done cheap and the injectors are real cheap, other wise call piers and get the one ready to go.
