What are the differences between the 96, 97, and 98 5 speed P7100 pumps?

I know they are all rated for 215 hp, but on industrial's site, they show the 96 and 97 as an '887' and the 98 as a '913'. Does the 98 pump have more potential over the others?

No.

Be careful because not all 96-98 5 speed trucks were 215's. The ones out of CA were 180's. Just make sure you get an 887 or 913.

Thanks, i almost bought an 841 pump, that was supposed to be off a 97 5 speed. I guess that doesnt match up seeing as how its a 94-95 5spd pump. Keep lookin!

Thanks again

I did a quick search for visual identification characteristics of the p7100's and didn't get anything (checked about 300 threads). Can I get a link or some advice on how to figure what model I have? Thanks.

This is true, but after replacing the tiring 887 pump on my '96 with a hopped up 175hp pump I must say the drivability on the 215hp is considerably better. The 215 pump is best in about every regard IMO, but all the others, even the little 160, have a lot of potential.

I think that you can make a smaller pump flow as much as the bigger ones.

not in the driveway with a set of hand tools... I mean, yeah, you can make a small pump flow like a stock big pump, but if you doo the same stuff to the big pump, it's gonna run away from the baby pump :)

Not to but in on your thread, but I was told by someone that the cams in the small pumps have some advantages over the cams in the larger pumps. Is this true? If I recall I remember something about fill times of the barrels? I don't know anything about it but you experienced guys might know. Without changing P&B's, what is my 841 capable of?

I've been looking at this also , one of the things I'm trying to do is find out at what useage , power levels , each is good for , it seems that there is a mindset , its either a total dog , or a pull truck , looking for realistick , power upgrade .
Sorry if you were looking for that Big HPs , but just trying to get info .

Remove the throttle linkage on the pump, 3 10mm bolts, the id plate is on the side of the pump behind the linkage. Check the numbers to see what pump you have.

Still looking for any advantages for any , for mild HPs - 350-400 , if the 160 is good enough for that , if the 160 will get me there [ with out too much ad ons ] , is there any advantages with the 160 ???

I was able to see what pump I had by shining a flashlight down there... didn't have to remove the linkage... I may have shoved a mirror or a chrome wrench down there, but I think I was able to see it without

The 1996 215 hp pump was Bosch 0 402 736 887 and the 97-8 was -913. They are serviced with exactly the same parts. The part number change was probably due to a casting vendor difference, according to my Bosch dealer. The cam was better for fueling and power in this pump than in the others used by Dodge. The pump can be bumped up to about 150 hp more than the other Dodge versions.
