Anybody tried it yet? Just put it in 3/4 forward. Boost was 35, no it goes to 40 so fast you can't believe it. :D I backed out of it there.

Smoke? You bet. Not as bad as I thought though. Light front end? Even more so.

PYRO READING

Have you got a pyrometer? If so, what's it read. The 4. 8 is the first and only plate that I have run in my 97' 215 pump. With the 4. 8 and 16 housing, egt's are way high. The cut on the 4. 8 with with 215 pump makes for a hot fuel curve. The boost is unreal though.

I also have the 4. 8,I had 215 inj,16cm housing,str8 exhaust

no egt problems,

Well now I changed del. valves,DD#3 & Piers gov spring kit

talk about where's there's smoke the fire I got it

I got on it& went up to 1500 pretty quick, advanced timing & goes up slower but smoke is bad but it never ran like this before, glues me to the seat. I guess I'll have to use the right foot to control egt's when towing.

4.8 info

The 4. 8 is a plate that Mark doesn't advertise much. It will usually run high egt's on a stock truck with a higher HP pump. Mark told me once that it is designed for the 94' auto. However, if it is put in a 215 pump, it will really move the truck. Mark wouldn't sell me one when I told him that I was going to put it in a 97' pump. I had to buy it through Dave Mitchell.

I wish I had a #5 to compare it with, but it's cut way back from the vertical. Comparing the #10 and #8 to it, if I remember right, the #8 allows about 1/32 more travel thatn the #10. I didn't measure, but the 4. 8 allows lots more travel.

If you ck out this link, you'll see that the #8 produces 10hp more than the #10 in the 2 pumps.

No telling how much more in the 96 & 97 215hp pumps. I had the #8 3/4 of the way forward. I figure 380hp or so. Also, I don't know if the pump along with the 300hp injectors can provide that much fuel. I couldn't get over 1300 degrees set up that way.

If the 4. 8 is based on the #5, then by the table, it's 50hp over the #10, centered. I've got it 3/4 of the way forward. Maybe 440hp or so. Again, don't know if the fueling is there to support that, but it blows away the #8 set up the way I had it. TST said that it was designed for the gov spring kit pumps.

Going to check EGT, but it's probably too much. Time to regulate boost with the right foot. :D

Forrest, seems like the only thing that's left to do is BOMB the intercooler.

If you go to a big truck junk yard, betcha could find one that fits!:D

Thanks for the info.

Eric

I agree Eric. :D Somewhere I thought I saw one made for us already. Really, the next project is get cooler air into the turbo, as quietly as possible.

I tried the RE-0880 w/o the cowl induction, just to try out the noise level. I didn't care for the additional noise. I'd sure like to figure out a way to route the 4" from the turbo to behind & under the radiator. I'd put the RE-0880 on it there! :) Just too much in the way for a quickie install. It'd have all the cool air it needs there & would stay dry enough, I think.

Jim Leonard has the Bullydog hood on his powerhouse RAM. REAL NICE. My wife passed judment with a thumbs up. That doesn't come easy. :D I thought it was a real quality item. Excellent design & fit. Got to be one of the best ways to get cool air into the stock airbox, quietly!

Try dry ice!!

Ancient chinese secret way back when, when I had my last car (turbo intercooled V-6 gas engine) was to built/fabricate a box around the intercooler, and fill it with dry ice. It made a big difference!!! With the location of the intercooler on these trucks, it wouldnt be an easy job like it was on a Grand National... .

Just trying to stimulate some thought. :D

Eric

PS Just thinking... . I was afraid of using a 330 HP plate!
