The Twelve Days of a Redneck Christmas

We'll miss Johnny Cash

I picked up a few boxes of olympic 5. 56 nato SS109 at my local gun shop the other day. I went out to play around and bumpfire a few mags through my Bushmaster. It kept getting jammed when the bolt came back to load the chamber. I made it throgh 12 rounds and the fire control locked up. I took it inside and broke it down and played with it. The hammer was cocked, the safety was on fire and the trigger was back and it was stuck. I shook it a little and out popped 2 primers. Shook it some more and a 3rd came out. I had to take the hammer out to get the 4th primer out of the gun. I went back through my empties and there was 4 shells missing primers. The bad thing is I only managed to fire 12 rounds in it. I took it back to Kieslers and they said they hadnt had anyone return that ammo due to bad primers, but they had sold 2 pallets of it from their last shipment. So I neded up with the bad box of several hundred cases. I then got some more Federal XM193 lot 16 and that works fine in it. I just wanted some steel core amo to play with some of my harder targets. Guess I should have stayed with what works.

Also the shells had no signs of over pressureizing or the firing pin punctering the primer. I havent checked headspace, but with 1800 rounds in a chrome lined Bushmaster, it shouldnt be a problem.

Bummer, thanks for the heads-up on that, but I haven't ever bought any Olympic. The surplus Russian and Israeli stuff I've run through my Bushmaster never jammed... I've still got 2 jerrycans full of Winchester-Olin I bought two years ago at the machinegun shoot in Knob Creek, haven't had time to get out and burn it up.

Speaking of Knob Creek, anybody on here planning to go there this October? www.machinegunshoot.com

When is the fall shoot scheduled? That link has dates stating April.

PS Stick with the Winchester, I think it's #3131. It's the standard that others are judged by. :D

Well, i didnt pay for it, it was a gift, and who is gonna refuse free ammo?

It's always worth a laugh or two to be the only guy out on the firing range at Knob Creek that doesn't need ear plugs... :D I just love all the good looking chicks with concern and panic on their faces, when they come up to offer me their spare pair... :D :-laf

Knob Creek at night is mind-blowing. Kinda like Baghdad on TV, only louder!

After reading about this stuff on ar15.com a while ago, there is no way i'll buy the olympic 223 loads. I have some for my 9mm, and they are loaded so hot that the primers are trying to blow out (primer flow).
