I hear 225 are better handling and 245 are better ride. The 245's fill up the wheel well nicely but are a tad more expensive. Do the 245's last any longer than the 245's? I would think yes to the extent that they have fewer revolutions per mile but does it make a big tread life difference?

Then there are highway tires vs AT's. I don't off-road hardly at all, I like the looks of the highway style better such as the Goodyear G-159's and the fact that they are quieter. However I am originally from the northwest (Washington/Montana, meaning snow/ice) and travel there to see family. I like to be prepared for everything and going off road is not out of the question. I also get big rain down poors here during monsoon season and don't particularly care for hydroplaning or getting stuck on wet grass. The AT tire I like is the Michelin XDE MS. People say they are LOUD but others say you cant hear them over the mighty cummins. I don't mind a little road noise. Also some have claimed at least 1 mile per gallon drop with aggressive tires, is this true for most of your experiences? (remember I will have 6 tires)

Which way did you go on size and style and why? Would you change styles if you could? Does anyone have the G-159's? Do they handle wetness very well? I think I have read enough to know people love the XDE MS. Don't skimp on your experiences, this is a spendy decision and I want to know every aspect. I have read the old threads but they were not very in depths and didn't discuss specifics that I wanting to know. TIA

I've only ever had 245's so I can't comment on the difference between 225's and 245's. I would think in this application it wouldn't matter as much.

As for the style, I run a mix. Highway rib in the front and AT in the rear. I have run AT's all they way around and I have run Highway rib's all around. The AT's wore out prematurely on the front (30,000 miles). The rears lasted nearly 100,000. These were the Michelin XZT (no longer made) that came with the wheels from Dual Designs when I bought them 6 years ago. When I bought this set of wheels from another member, he had Michelin XZE's (rib) all around. I didn't like the wet weather traction, but it's not bad if your careful. The truck never got away from me in corners, but I could spin the tires easy from a stop light.

The tires I run now are Continental HSR in the front (rib) and HDR in the rear (AT). None of the tires I have run made noise, at least not like a mud tire. If you have way to rotate, then there is no problem running AT's all the way around. I can't rotate mine without breaking the tires down and swapping them on the wheels in their current position. The insides of my rears are too beat up to move them around.

Hope this helps.

Here is my 245/70 R 19. 5" with Forged Aluminum Rims. .

The rims are called "Eliminator" From Ricksons and they are $400 each. . have a . 25 setback but look good since the section width is skinnier.

The tread on the 245 Michelin XDE-MS

They ride good and I have a 36' 5th and just got back from a 2300 mile trip and averaged 10 mpg... These are 12 ply , not 16 and they are the "F" rated at 4080# @95 psi... . Tread is 21/32 nds and do good.

Here is the difference between the 245/70 R 19. 5 on the right and the stock michelin 265/75-16 on the left.

Here is the view down the side of the truck... The tires don't stick out at all. .

I think I'm going with an AT tire and given up on the highway tire. Its down to these 2. The Michelin has more tread depth but I am thinking the Michelins will wear faster based on what I've read. The other one is a Kumho KRD02, sorry the image turned out puny.

Hayden,

You see you posted the pic od the Michelin XDE-MS As mine is... .

They do sing a little but the cab seals most of it out. I have a heavy 5th wheel and the michelins handled a 2 week trip wonderfully. I averaged 10 MPG and there was never any problem with the tires.

I bought them locally to save shipping ... I got the rims from Ricksons... Look at the Aluminum rims are and see the "eliminator" rims... Forged Aluminum

I've got 33K on my XDE/MS's and they've got 15/32nds left from a starting depth of 22/32nds. They should go 80-90K. I rotate all 6 every 10K. They were very squishy for the first 10K or so, too tall tread. 95% of my miles are with a trailer, loaded one way-25K, empty back-6K.

I need to pick up 2 tires. I cant get out to the truck right now but I know they are Michelins and I think they are the XDS2. (The last 2 I bought) and they seem to be wearing out real quick, What kind of mileage are you guys getting out of what tires?

245/70x19. 5 Goodyears 124 I don't think they make this tire any more. I think they'll rot off before they wear out. I'm very pleased with them.

Every truck pic on the TDR makes me appreciate the Dodge trucks and every one is BEAUTIFUL in its own way/style... But I have to say I've admired the looks and toughness of your truck every time I see it. It just has the right combo of colors and ride height and those wheels/tires... OMG! Arguably, the best looking truck on the TDR, especially for us towing types... ;)

Gonna see how they hold up. $960 for 2 tires incl mount balance all 4 and rotate. Boy it hurt. Tires were $390 each they had a China brand for $200 each but that just aint me...
