Dose anyone have any experience with the 230 horse pumps that are used in busses freightliners and RV's. Are they any good as good or better than the 887 or 913 215 horse pumps. Some pump #s for it would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Well I can tell you the specs show good torque but not much rpm from what I rember when my Dad had one in a medium duty Ford.

just a WAG, but I've got to guess they're not as good as a 215... anyone could do a couple tweaks to a 160, 175, or 180, and get 230 out of it... again, just a WAG... they maybe the cat's patoot, but I'm guessing not.

I know a guy that's using a 230hp pump in a sled pulling application, he had it gone over and it now is governed to about 5000 rpm's. I don't know what else was changed.

I recently put one on my 94. Test stand run it put out a little over 500 cc at 100 strokes and 21mm of rack travel after setup. Get the pump set up with DV's, gov springs, a good profile on the cam plate, and a big rac cap and you'll be happy

You will not get the same performance from a 160,175, or 180 hp pump because of the cam and barrel and plungers in the 215 and 230 hp pumps. They just don't put out as much

I think what he was getting at is that is it easy to get enough fuel for 230HP out of any of the above mentioned pumps. JMHO

There are P-pumps upto the range of 325hp that have our same govenor set-up that would just need alil tweaking to ge tthe extra RPMs out of.

From about 250hp up they are pumps off an 8. 3 engine, I've yet to inspect one real close to see if it would be a straight bolt on affair to our motors.

Cummins Part number for the 230hp pump is 3282240

Bosch number is 0 402 736 856

They are a direct bolt up. They look identical to pump off 5. 9. Just internals are different
