I am contemplating 235/85 16s in place of the 215s, My question is, what brand of tire has anyone used that still had an exceptable space in between the sidewalls of the duallys? I do not want to fool with spacers. I don't think I run heavy enough to warrent the 19. 5s but really would like to go a little larger.

96 3500 White 4x4 extended cab. K&N, alum dimond plate running and box boards, 8000lb Ramsey on custom built front reciever hitch and mount, tow 18' flatbed with 69 Vette and 89 HD.

I'm going to swap over to BFG A/T 235's and Alcoa LTS's once these Michelins wear out. I've seen the BFG 235's on several trucks in town, and tire clearance is fine.

I have had 235's on all the 3500's I have owned and I pull trailers and have never had a problem... I currently have the Michelin E rated LTX M&S on and they are wearing very well... however, I wasn't impressed with them in snow or on ice. I am looking at going to a slightly more agressive tread pattern before winter hits. I looked at Autopar [Dodges tire that is made by Michelin] and they have a road hazard and are more affordable then the Michelins... I'll post what I decide. 235's are no problemo and no spacer is required.

Thanks guys, you got me thinkin, why are all the makers going with these scrawney 215 tires if the 235s work? And I understand the 2000 Rams can have the 235s as an option, are they using the same wheel as my 96? Dave Hauser

I looked at a Y2K 3500 last weekend and they're still using the same steel wheels; just different simulators. The 235's definitely looked better on the truck, and I'm sure it rides noticeably better.

Speaking of options, I wonder why DC doesn't offer their alloys as an option. Dorf has the Alcoa's and they definitely help the appearance of the truck.

Just my 2 pesos.

I think the wheels on the Y2Ks are slightly different -- at least thats what we were told at the TDR Nats. The Dodge rep told me that they used the same basic wheel with a bit more offset and that puts the tires just a little farther apart. From looking at the C&C they had there with 235s, it did appear as though they had more spacing than mine did with the old 235s. Could he have been blowing smoke?? Sure, but from my observation I think he was telling it straight.

Interesting; wouldn't be too difficult to make the offset a bit different; after looking at my wheels over the weekend, they just have to weld on a different sleeve. I'm sure the P/N's for the rims will tell the whole story.
