:)Hi guys, it is about time to replace the 215/85/16's that are on the truck. I want to move up to 235/85/16's. Anyone running these on thier stock dually 6 inch rims? 6 inch rims are the minimum for this size tire. The section width difference between the two tire sizes is a half inch. Right now I measure 1 and 1/4 inch plus between the tires on the rim so with the larger size I will still have a min. 3/4 inch spacing between the tires.

Seems like it will work fine... Anyone have any comments or anyone running this size tire with experiences to share?

Thanks, Ken

I have run 235-85 on my truck since new with no problem(70,000), other than the extra tall gearing. Auto with 3. 54's.

Makes it really long legged. With stock power I was ready to change back to stock. With dd3's and EZ they work great.

BIG RUBBER

I had a '95 dually 4X4 and ran 255-85-16 BFG MUD TERRAINS with a 1/4" spacer between the rims. the tires looked cool:D and filled the wheelwells nicely. never had any problems with that set-up,and know of 2 other trucks running the same tire. i bought the spacers at NAPA.

I just put on 235/85R16, with Load Range "E", a few weeks ago (on stock rims). I haven't measured the space between tires but it looks plentiful. I have not hauled any heavy loads yet but I don't expect any problems. Since I have a 4. 1 rear, I appreciate the tall tire with it's 32. 1 diameter :) . This is why I pursued this method of improving my ratio to the pavement. I went to tire manufacturer websites to find the tire specs and ended up with Firestones but they were not the only choice.

Thanks guys for the feedback. Sounds like it may be workable. I ran some searches on old posts and found some info. Apparently this was a big quesion a few years ago and some folks did some research and determined that any 235 tire with a section width less than 9. 4" would work ok.

Extreme Force

What is the skinny on the spacer? Are these safe for hauling a camper, etc. Thinking about it a little, sliding the the reaction point for the second wheel on the stud out a mere 1/4" is not going to increase the moment a whole lot on the stud.
