235/85R16s Rubbing on 2wd?

I'm posting this on behalf of a friend of mine who has yet to join. He recently bought a '92 3/4 ton club cab 2wd. It had worn out 235/85R16s on it when he got it. He put on (almost) new 235/85R16s on it, which he (and I) thought was the stock size, and now they rub the front fenders pretty bad. It has aftermarket rims, not sure of the width or backspacing. What size do other people run on these trucks? Is the rubbing due to the rims maybe? I want to say the front springs are farily new, but I'm not positive, will have to ask him.

Thats the size I'm running on my 93. I have aftermarket wheels. I get some rub when putting the wheel to the stops but not real bad.

I have wheel rub on my '92. It just catches the moldings. I am also running the same size tires as him. Really though , the only time it rubs REAL bad is when I turn and start to go up a hill with a small bump at the bottom. Even then it is not all that bad. ---- B. J. Deal

I had the same problem.

After have three sets of tire with no problems, I put on some new tires at about 125K. They rubbed at the front on the molding. Not at tires are created equal. My new ones rubbed when they were new. It was not bad and only did it when I turned just right and hit a bump. After a few miles they stopped.

On my '93 D250, my front left tire rubs against the upper moulding/running board, but it only does it when I hit a bump/dip at a significant speed. This happened before and after right and left, upper and lower ball joint replacement and an alignment.

Thanks guys, sorry for the delayed response. He says the springs are new, he got the receipt for them and they still have the new Dodge stickers on them. The truck is a little banged up on one side on the front from the previous owner's accident, we were wondering if that was causing the rubbing, but it sounds like it's not too uncommon. Maybe he just got some tall 235s.

Dang, me too lately :-(

yeah, i just put on a set of 235/85/r16 's {Continental's}..... only the right front rubs on the fender moulding, i guess the old tires were so {bald} from burnouts they didn't rub after that. . but the new ones do, oh well..... still happy first gen owner what can i say, she puts up with alot

I have an 89 2wd 3/4 tonand i have very little rub. I have stock rims and 235/85/r16 s and the only time rub is at full steer and if the suspension bottoms out.
