What say ye about your 235s & handling either towing or solo? I'm about to do it & wondering if the taller sidewalls have had any better or worse affect on anyone. I'm going the Costco route, Michelins.

I have 235/85/16 Dunlop Mud Rovers and have them aired to 68/48. I typically take corners easy to save the outside lugs. The few times I've taken corners hard, it feels good for a 6800 pound truck but there is some understeer. Steering is much more precise with narrow 235's than the 285/75/16 Bridgestone Mud Terrains they replaced. I was able to get 30K out of them running low pressure, 45/30. When I aired them up to 55/45 the next 12K wore them out quick.

I went from stock 245/75R16 Goodyear ATs to 235/85R16 Goodyear work horse extra grips. The tread pattern is alot more agressive on the new tires handling empty and towing don't seem to have changed alot if anything I think the 235/85s are alittle better on the hiway where the semi's have worn in the grooves. My next tire will be 255/85R16.

Forrest: Best tire size to run. I tried the 255R85 and got about the same 35K as the factory tires. On my second set of ToyoM55 in the 235R85. Got 59K out of the first set. My truck weights 7600 full fuel and I have to run 70 in front and 65 in back. Good ride ... go Tires.

Thats not the 1st time the Toyo M55 has been recommended as a long mileage tire. I've got to ck them out. Also, I wonder if the mpg might go up a bit with the 235's. Depending on tread pattern, there is a little less rolling resistance with the narrower tire.

I rember riding in an F250 4WD with 235's & it was squirrely. None of you RAMMERS have seen that. If anything, they seem better able to handle road grooves! The last thing I need is to be towing & have the whole mess go back & forth a 1/2 of inch because of road gooves. I swear you can feel side to side movement while towing. Not cool. Great coments #ad

I dont know if this is the truth or not but when I was loking for new tires the guy behind the counter said that he could not sell me 235/85/16's for my qud cab ram. He said they were to narrow and the vehical wouldnt trck right. I am not sure if he was feeding me a line of bs. Just some thing else to confuse you and make you think about. I ended up buying 265/75/16's.

Forrest. . I have a higher grade of Michlins that will get you much more miles and are much tuffer than the ones you listed. . its a special order tire thru Costco [not normaly a stocked tire] its is the XPS 235/85/16LT. .commercial grade of tire, much stiffer side wall wich will not roll over in mountains tike the LTX. . in the m/t their about $155. 00 plus tx ect... go over there and have Harley George help you out[I worked with him years ago whin I was in that location, tell him one of his old "bosses" sent ya in. . BTW I got 20,000 miles on original tires the XPS I have on now have 50,000 miles and another 10,000 in them. . I live in the mountains and drive 140 miles a day [hard miles, don't give the rig any slack drive it like a auto cross car]. . also have BOMB mods for power... belive me the tires ARE the way to go!!. . I have been running 35x15. 50's for about three years and haven't had a problem. Tows and rides just fine. Just remember that your effetive gear ratio's are going to change when you go to the taller tire. It towed well with 3. 55's, tows awesome with 4. 11's

I put the Michelin XPS 235/85/16LT tires on my 92 4x4 and have approximately 63,000 km on them and can expect to get at least another 20,000 km. So far this has been an excellent tire. One of the most important things that you can do for any tire is make sure that it is properly inflated. I keep my tires at 75 psi - the maximum allowable is 80 psi. If your tires are underinflated and you carry a heavy load or you are towing you will find that your vehicle will start wandering.

I have been running Dunlop 255/85 ‘s. Replaced the originals at 47,000 and now have 90,000. I will probably squeeze another 6-10,000 out of the Dunlops. The 255/85 tire looks a lot better, doesn’t look so puny. The truck sits about an inch higher (had to adjust my snow plow to line up). No complaints about the ride.

Yo Willy man,

Just got off the phone with that Harley dude. They are $129. 99. I didn't know that the XPS stands for 'extra rib' in the sidewall. One heavy duty chingaso #ad

Don't you just hate it when someone makes something with an 'extra rib', or call it 'for off road use only'? Makes me reach for my wallet every time. What a marketing ploy. Suck us techno lust heavy duty BOMBING Rammers in every time #ad

Forrest. . what size you looking at ??. . price you post looks 20/25$$ low. . worth a recheck... I paid aprox 150/55 for 235/85/16 ea. belive they only come in load range E. . don't remember for shure the price as I'm getting old and forgetfullllll. . Gary

$129. 99 is right, just paid $28. 00 down & they're on order #ad
Costco just wants the mounting/balancing charge as a down payment, then its 7 to 10 days. Out comes the floor jack & bottle jacks for the Costco parking lot. Being they are not the original equipment size, they won't put them on. Minor detail #ad

Well they're on. I ended up swapping out the XPVs for the M+S because of the winter road conditions. The tread pattern on the XPVs look like the ribbed tires you see on the front of the big rigs. No doubt that they will last a long long time.

Costco has to be the best place to buy tires around here. #ad
They took the XPVs back with 50 miles on them, gave me a full refund & I bought the 235s in M+S. I inflated to 50 in front & 40 in rear as per the Dodge manual for the 245's. They handle great. #ad

There are 2 drawbacks. 1. They are heavier & it takes a little more to accelerate. 2. Being that they are heavier, some more shock is needed. However, it gives you an excuse to 1. Add more fuel & boost, #ad
#ad
2. Add those Rancho 9000's. #ad
