Watch the fuel needle move real fast. On Thursday I lost the injection pump.

They call today and it's fixed. I spoke to the mechanic and he said the housing was cracked and it was considered defective.

I now have a good layer of rust inhibitor all over the bottom of the truck and inside the engine compartment.

My loaner is a 1/2 ton Z-71. Feels like a 72 caddy, just floats. ICK!

Wow. I thought I remember someone on here saying a CP-3 changeout is a piece of cake... at least I hope I remember hearing that.

Where were you when the pump let go?

Hey Ryan,

I spoke with the mechanic, he said it took him about 2 hours to get it all changed out.

I was at work (Minneapolis) when a guy came in and said there was a puddle under my truck and it was smoking. The fuel had gotten on the motor and was burning off. I get here about 5am, so it was dark and I had no clue.

I figured I would drive it back to the dealer, if she went up in flames, hello mega-cab.

He did tell me that he had to send the part back to dc.

years ago i had a gmc[still got]that did a similar thing, only thing was it was the injector pump. i was leaving the job site late one day, soon as igot on the highway and had shiffted into fourth gear the truck ran away ,turning the key off had no effect,it simply maxed its rpms out, standing on the breaks and leaving the truck in second gear finaly shut it off. well i restarted it,and as long as the rpms were kept below about 2000,it did fine[except for a lot of blue smoke]. with no help around i simply drove it nearly 30 miles to my mechanics shop, like i said lots of smoke and raw fuel dumping out the exhaust. it took nearly 2 full tank[20 gal]of fuel to get it to the shop,on the bright side, after the pump was replaced and the diluted oil changed, the fresh oil stayed clear for about a week...
