Here I am

24 Valve and "homebrew"

First testing of DSE in jars....

Coconut Oil

Does anybody have a report or opinion on how well the 24 valves will agree with a combination DSE & WVO III system?

Just trying to get a little more input before I leap into the world of "homebrew" diesel... ... ..... :-laf

Mostly what I have found out is that the high pressure rail injection is more sensitive to "bad" fuel. There was an instance of polymerization or what they call "flocking". The higher pressure in the injection system causes the fuel to turn to tiny plastic beads. These plastic fragments get into the fuel tank through the return fuel line. These plastic fragments then plug the fuel filter. This is apparently the worst thing that can happen (short term anyway). Maybe someone else has some information about long term issues.

Just noticed the question was regarding the WVO III system. JGann has been researching this alot. He is probably quite busy right now though, he lives in south Florida.

I think the question was on the 24 valve '98 to '02 engine (VP44/LP concerns).

Still think the VP44 is suspect to damage with the heavier WVO fuels. . but don't know for sure. Anyone?

Mike

One reason I stopped running cotton seed oil was due to it being thicker and heavier than soybean oil. I did not want to take the chance of killing the VP.

I have run WVO for a year and 1/2. I just ran into the flocking problem or it could have been algae?? Whatever it was it plugged my in tank screen up in my diesel only tank and caused me a few days of grief + $300 in a replacement module.

I have been through 3 VP44's this year but all were electronic failures from the module. I no longer heat my WVO as of the last VP and run a mix of diesel + power service + WVO.

My diesel only tank now gets a mix of PS/MMO.

Hope this info helps.

I have been running a 20% WVO with #2 mix for 2 months. Not one problem...

It's an 01 truck.

I have noticed a power increase as well as 2 more miles per gallon.

The crap in the WVO will plug filters and injectors if you run it long enough.

Sounds like a suicide plan to me!!! IF you want to run it straight, at least put some of it in/on your hands.

you could also stop by at a guys processor and look/feel the junk that comes out of WVO.

I think it is smarter? ( less dumber?)

to use unfiltered old engine oil than straight WVO.

It is your truck, do what you want with it. Just be careful that you don't miss-lead the unknowing!

I am not trying to miss-lead anyone, just stating what is working for me.

If I run into trouble, I have no problem getting in there and fixing it...

The oil that I am putting in there is filtered 2 times before going into the tank. The last filter I changed had about 4 months worth of #2 and about 120 +/- gallons of WVO mix. Pulled the filter and it was spotless, about 4 guys in the local coffee night group witnessed this also. However, NONE of them are running WVO. One guy this past weekend wanted to try it. He was from Virginia and had to drive back home from CT. I advised him NOT TO DO IT!

Hey, that last batch looked pretty clear to me. If it had been summer time, I would have done it. I need a fuel pump anyway, and if I need bigger injectors, well.....
