Hey Everyone, I am still waiting on my pump cover for the FMS but I did fiquire out how to get the gauges working without the pump tapped. I have some questions/concerns that I need help with.



1. I ran her a little hard today to see what kind of EGT's I would get in the hills. I ran it up i-70 to the Evergreen pass and when I romped on the go pedal I could see 1275 degrees. Keep in mind, I currently only have 275 injectors running in my rig. Is this normal for a near stock truck? Seems awful high. The ambient air tempature was about 64 degrees, I am not sure what elevation I rolled up to but am guessing around 8,300 feet.



2. No matter what I did and how hard I pushed it I could not make more than 16 lbs of boost. What gives?



3. What are normal pre-turbo temps while running down the Interstate unloaded @ 75 mph?



4. What Pre-Turbo temp should I cool to before shutting the CTD down?

Jeff, that is because you don't have the benefits of a boost fooler (built into the EZ) nor do you have the boost elbow in the waste gate controller (also comes with the EZ).



I had a hard time getting to 1250 with thes injectors with the EZ. I had to have the jeep in tow and a long hill to reach it. I averaged 700-800F while cruising 75 and ran about 12psi of boost. With the EZ I could reach 28psi with those injectors and if you push real hard you can hit 30psi from time to time.



Being at the elevation you said, relatively speaking, there is a lot less air at 8000f then there is at 50 where I am. I would think, with the thin, air, no type of timiming/fueling device, and the defueling feature of a stock setup, that sounds about right.
 
More Boost

You might try to adjust the wastegate to open later. That or get a brass elbow with a restricter in it. The turbo master device would be a good choice. Anyway you slice it, you need to keep the wastegate closed longer if not completely. Just don't wire it closed, bad idea.



Your always going to see higher temps at high altitude. You just don't have the air density.



One additional pound of boost will drop your temps approx 25*.
 
Am I seeing it right in your siggy that you have an auto that is stock, and your going to put a FMS box in it when it has 275's? That's a big load for a stock transmission.

Yep, I know transmission mods are much needed. Will be getting a DTT transmission, until then wont be playing with the FMS a lot.
 
Jeff the reason your truck is running that hot is due to a couple of things.



First off don't forget that you have an HY turbo that only has a 9cm housing.



Second, The ECM in the 24 valve truck has a boost limitation which is in the 16-18lb range. Your FMS box has the ability to prevent your ECM from getting an overboost code, so now that you have the gauges up and working, we need to adjust your wastegate.



Don't forget what I told you about my wife's truck. Stock she was easily hitting 1300 degrees. When I swapped out her HY for my stock HX, her EGT's went way down. Mainly due to the bigger housing on the turbo, but also adjusting the wastegate helped out a ton.



Also, to answer your question about cool down temps... . anywhere 350 or below preturbo is ideal.

Hey Bob! No slipping action yet. Yet being the operative word. I did drive and ride in Kevins with the DTT and am impressed. Definetely will have you build me one. Heres the problem, wife is grumpy about all the toys I want. We made a pact, every dollar I spend on bombs she gets to spend a dollar on stuff she wants. I'll tell ya, this will probably be the most expensive transmission you'll ever build :{ :{

Kind of in a rock and a hard place, not enough cash to essentially drop $6000 on a transmission :( and I am not about credit. So I guess I'll have to be a good boy for a little while and build the cash stash :{ :{

My wife and I have the exact same deal with bombs. I had LaserBob send me a price quote on a transmission rebuild and DD2's and man, she about went crazy. We made a deal that if my pay checks are over a certain amount I get the left over to put towards my transmission, but once I get the transmission she gets the same amount off the top of my check for something she wants. I'm on piece work so I basically control my paycheck. I'm telling you, if I didn't have a 7 month old daughter I would have the floodlights out, working all night and driving a DTT modified CTD!!! Oo. Oo.

MY turbo started making a noise last fall. I told my wife that it may be going bad. She asked what that meant. It means that I will have to get a "replacement turbo". I never said anything about a stock turbo. Now I have a very nice PDR HX40 under my hood.



I am not saying that it will always work, but another guy was out near Platteville driving around in his 12v truck when he got a head-gasket leak. Darn, that is really bad (he told his wife. ) Very soon he will have a new head-gasket to be clamped in between the stage II PDR ported head (o-ringed) and PDR cam. I think that he can count on a fine seal with his head-gasket.



I am not taking any responsibility for anything that you guys say to your wives. Just let me know if I can help you fix your problems with your trucks. ;)

I hear ya jman! this deal sucks :( :( No, Actually is pretty darn fair, it just sucks to think how much this transmission is gonna cost. :{ :{

Don't worry Jman and Jeff... I'm not too far behind you. Except the deal with my wife is not that she gets to spend dollar for dollar. She just keeps begging me to buy upgrades for her CTD :D :D



Darn... guess I have to buy another set of DD2's, a DTT transmission and some fueling mods for her truck ;)

Ah Matt, Wait til your day comes and you'll understand. Your neck really hurts after sleeping on the coach a couple nights :D and that pent up energy... ... ... ... :D

I am still doing that unemployment thing, and the day to day contract labor just is not getting me anywhere close to the $1k I need (not want, need) for the DD1's, EZ, and gauges. I can only embezzel so much before it looks suspicious. And today a set of DD1's show up in the clasifieds and I have no money:{ :{ :{

I was supposed to WAIT to get my EZ, well I didn't make it...



She decided the tit for tat thing was great and spent it all on a purse!!! #ad
