I looked and looked but can't find the thread about swapping out a 24 for a 12 valve motors. I have a 99 24 valve auto 4x4 and want to replace it with a 12 valve 6sp 4x4 manual trans. I need to know do I need a new wiring harness and pcm or can I use whats in the truck and do little or a lot of rewiring? I only need to know about the electrical not mechanical part of the swap. I know its been done from 24 to 12 valves but I also want everything to work like tac, a/c, cruise and all.

Thanks Charles

The 12 valve needs very little wiring to run. As an option to an engine swap, there are also kits that will convert the 24 valve to use a Bosch P7100 fuel pump. Most of the wiring can be made to work on a Ford, so i only imagine it should be more direct on a Dodge. Are there no such postings in the conversions forum?

he looked into the p7100 swap once. but has since sold the 24v engine. he has a 12v sitting there ready to go in.

whats up Charles? how is the back?

The back sucks but I am still kicking. lol I know it shouldn't be that hard to get going... . But talking about a information let down:confused: I know its been done and no one wants tell how to do it?????

That's too bad, since PDR makes a camshaft with the gear for the P7100, which sounds like it pretty much turns the 24V into a mechanical.

So just change the cam with the gear and poof it's a mechanical? The p-pump kit 1400. 00 new or used pump 600. 00 to 1100. 00, cam and gear 500. 00 to 800. 00, new injectors 400. 00 to 800. 00 so far 2500. 00 on the low end and 4100. 00 on the high end? I have talked with a few members about this swap and it's not that easy or cheap for the p-pump!

Didn't say it was easy or cheap. :D I do recall reading similar warnings on that before. Mostly these are for pulling trucks, I think, but could be an option for other uses. Of course, it's going to be expensive if you're building a pulling truck. Would be curious about the $2500 low end setup, though. All of those 02 and earlier 24Vs out there are just begging to get a real fuel pump. :-laf

Do you want to run the 2v or 4v motor. Do you want to P-pump the 4v or do you just want to put the whole 2v motor in the truck? If you want to P-pump the 4V you will need a new cover to start with.

I am going with a 12 valve motor, What I have found out is when I replaced the pcm in my 98 12 valve with my 99 24 valve pcm everything worked but the tac:) So it should not be that hard to get it to work. I was thinking about having the 99 pcm sent out and reflashed to the 98 12 valve motor pcm specs. All I need to do now is get my hands on a 98 12 valve wire harness.

24v p-pumped

I can tell you all, that I converted a 98. 5 24v to run with a p-pump. I think it is the best thing I could have done. It runs much better then before and has more power then it did as a stock 24v. The best part is now I don't have to worry about that vp44 dieing in the middle of no where or having to shell out $1100-$3000 just to replace the vp. I did spend about 50 man hours and about $1400 for the parts to convert it. Would I do it again, #$%% YES! in a New York second.
